2003 jeep grand cherokee : Im looking for another vehicle.. and the path that my wife and myself wouldlike to take is a sport utility... we are interested in several models... some of which being the Blazer,the Jimmy, the Rodeo, etc.... we owned an Isuzu Amigo for almost a year, but had to get rid of it.. we areboth into the outdoors.. and our car just isnt cutting it much anymore... we are seeking advice on which is better to get.. we have heard so manydifferent things about all the different kinds.. thanks for all the help you can give us... 2003 jeep grand cherokee : the 1996 Grand Cherokees have been completely redone insidewith dual airbags and a squeak free interior... my wife, wantsto get one when she gets out of law school, she drives a Rangernow and i want to get her an Expedition, but i would ratherput her in a Grand Cherokee than a Ford Explorer, and having stated this, i am a big Ford guy, and we have had flawless ownership with her Ranger...RocketJoe and I were told that the design of the Grand CherokeeBy meaning that "our car just isn't cutting it anymore" are you refering to theAmigo? I have driven most of the sport utes, here is a brief synopsis of what I thoughof some of them: Rodeo / Honda Passport - Crude 4wd system. Nice powerful engine, but lacking low end torque. Decent build quality. Explorer / Mountaineer - NICE, go for the V-8, the 4.0L is just a tad weak for hauling around 4000+lbs. Used to be an excellent value (when I bought mine it was), but is getting a bit expensive, but still better value than most of the Imports. Mine has been excellent in the reliability dept....
2003 jeep grand cherokee : 4Runner - TOO expensive. Weak V-6, nice interior and build quality. Parents had a 92 that was *trouble prone* (wiring, 4wd, idle) Jeep GC - Get the V-8. The 4wd systyem is probably the best of the bunch (excepting of course the Land Rover). Build quality sucks. Blazer - *Rough* engine, horrible interior build quality, noisy drivetrain, and more expensive than Explorer. Not a winning combo in my book. Land Cruiser / Suburban / Bronco / etc- I group these into a group I call rediculous. A sport ute is supposed to be a versitile vehicle for moving people ans things with ease through bad conditions. But these things are just so damn huge, luxo, and expensive that I would much rather spend the money on a truely good car. Others - I group some of the others (like Pathfinder) in a group I like to call "Others". It is because they are either no where near a good value, or are just too truck like to be considered. If I want something that handles like a truck, I'll go get an F-150... Anyway this is my humble opinion of some of the sport utes avail. One that Ihave not tried is the new RAV-4. It looks good, but would probably bee too weakfor my tastes.....
2003 jeep grand cherokee : Hello....we are considering the purchase of the 2003 Grand Cherokee Laredoalong with the Trailblazer and Toyota Highlander. It seems the Jeep has thebest bang for the buck and best deal along with everything we want.However, in pouring through research of reliability, I see a lot of negativefeedback on 2000 and earlier Jeeps as well some on 2001 and 2002. Nothingmuch on 2003. I have read about a lot of brake problems, transaxle problemsand electrical problems. Have these consistent issues between owners beenaddressed in the 2003 models? The Highlander is a bit pricey for us andwhat you get, but you do get the "Toyota reliability" and I cannot say muchfor the GM product except it has the worst warranty, 3/36 only. Thanks!We had a 1999 GC. We loved it. The only problems we had in four years, 57kmiles were insignificant (heated leather seat burned out, a fickle fuel gaugeand a sticky cd player). Indeed, after looking at the same models you arelooking at, we just traded it in for a 2003 GC. Not only are they practicallygiving them away right now, we found the GC handles much better than theTrailblazer (and Envoy), especially in the steering department. And theHighlander, while a very nice riding and comfortable vehicle, is not a truck,but a modified Camry. That may be okay for many folks, but it was notappropriate for pulling our boat trailer. Get the Grand Cherokee - with the V8if possible. Its a fantastic engine.
2003 jeep grand cherokee : Is there any word on the Y2K model for the Wrangler, ie...bigger engine.When i was at Camp Jeep, the techs out there talked as if that was apossibility, either a V8 or a beefing up the 4.0. Teske98 TJ Wrangler Sport31x10.50, Clarion 5740, Clarion 6CD, AudioPhile 10"no exact news yet. However Jeep officials have said that the 2000 Wranglerwill get the revised edition of the 4.0L engine now in the WJ Grand Cherokee. Jeep officials also said that the 4.7L V8 can fit "very easily" into the TJ'sengine compartment. It may be offered on an edition called "Overland", thename obviosly a throw back to old Jeep days. The overland may also be aMilitary vehical, as Jeep will try to contend with AM General. The problemwith the V8 Wrangler is that Jeep will only offer it as a full-time 4wd with a4 speed automatic. Niether of which is available on the TJ now, and probablywon't be, seeing how the TJ will be short lived and the expense of creatingsuch a system is not worth it. The current "Quadra-trac" will not fit on theTJ. (we can hope for a version of the Durango's Select-trac though).
