chrysler 300 : I have a midnight blue two-door hardtop 1963 (1964?) Chrysler300. It was owned by my father, who parked it in a two-cargarage in 1982 and never drove it again. It isn't a runnerobviously. I've been told that it'd cost me around 8k to turnit into one, and an additional 12 to 14k (along with about 2to 4 years of time since I'd contract out all of the renovations)to make it -cherry-. It was a great car, lots of fun to drive, withhuge headlights, vestigal tail fins and lots of chrome for thatneeded road-hugging weight. The dash looks like it wasdesigned by Ming The Merciless, enough dials and buttonsto fly it to Alpha Centauri.The body is in okay shape, some rust-belt rust (I livein MI) but no serious damage other than that. The frontwindshield has a major crack that'd require replacement.All of the chrome (and that is a LOT of chrome!) hasto be redone as the copper under it has oxidized tothe surface. All major and minor systems need tobe redone, if you tried to start it the engine wouldsieze up and probably thow a rod. Only three factors makeme think that it might be worth saving: it has beengaraged all this time, fairly few were ever madeand, as people in the trade say, "its all there".Nobody has been chopping at it, pulling parts,its pretty much original.

All of the the parts are there and it hasn't been cobbled together over the years by 10 different owners. Withthe original paint you know exactly what you've got. Contract it all out and expect to pay $20-30K ifyou really want it "cherry". The mechanical stuff will be relativelyeasy to take car of. Keep in mind that the car will never sellfor what you put into it, but to you it may be worth everypenny. Get my drift ?

So the cheapest it could be is $18,000 and although the most is open ended youcan figure on $72,000.In discribing your car it sounds like it would take about $32,000 to get it-CHERRY-.If the motor is a Long Ram then it might very well be worth it. Long Rams areChrysler 300 that have the 413 motor with 2/4 bbls sitting side by sideconected by long tubes. If you got one of these then yes it's worth it. Otherwise no.From the vestigal fins it's a '64, and from the description of theamount of chrome I'll guess it's a sport series. I'll bet a fair chunkof change that, unless the engine was in *sad* shape when it wasparked, I could have it running within 4 hours of arriving on-scene. Anoil change, a slug of marvel mystery oil down all the spark plug holes,change coolant, rotate by hand with a breaker bar, insert new battery,drain/refill fuel tank.... VROOM ;-) Of course the carb or ignitionsystem might have developed problems, but thats nothing. The fuel pumpmight fail after 5 minutes too, but I SERIOUSLY doubt it would seize upand throw a rod.
chrysler 300 : That depends LARGELY on whether its a 300 Letter Series or just a plain300 Sport Series. The former is, for better or worse, substantiallymore valued than the latter. If its a 63, then it should be a 300H, ifits a '64 it will be a 300K.
