Its sales fluff to throw youoff balance.Take horsepower, for instance. That's an English measurement. Metric is inkilowatts. We want to hear the new 300 M has 250 horsepower under the hoodbecause we know what that means. Chrysler is proud of that engine. Troubleis, full throttle from idle (about 950 rpm) that engine probably won't put outmore than 50 horsepower at torque convertor stall and actually the powertraindevelops 0 h.p. at the wheels when the car is still at rest before it startsbreakaway.Now look at weight. Its always given in pounds, a U.S. measurement. Not inmetric kilograms, because that would make the car seem too "light". The 300 Mweighs empty an advertised 3581 pounds. In kg, that would be only 1628 kg andevery moneyed buyer knows the heavier the better. Plenty of steel is strongerin the inevitable crash and a heavy car definitely holds the road better,right? Well it is right for those who don't know vehicle dynamic physics. D-Cactually could bring up the kg weight to 3581 if it wanted to by simplypacking the hollow spaces with concrete, but its easier the other way.

The 300 M sports a3.5 l. engine and that does sound impressive when compared to a largemotorcycle of say 1100 cc or a VW with 1.6 l. or a Reliant with a 2200 fourbanger. But is the 3500 cc really large in terms of cubic inches, which wefamiliarly used to use to describe engine displacement? Chrysler would beembarrased to bring up c.i., the U.S. measurement system it uses foreverything else. So, it uses metric, which you don't intuitively convert. Well, 3.5 l. is all of 214 c.i. That doesn't sound like much, being 21 c.i.smaller than a '52 Chevy 6, and that's why the 300 M doesn't get up and golike if it had a good old-fashioned '57 Pontiac 347 Rochester fuel injectedV-8. 347 cubic inches does sound like a lot and converts to 5.7 liters. That's 63% bigger than the pipsqueak 300 M and would put the 300 M into lowEarth orbit.Duh. We all know that. This trend started happening around the time thatDetroit stopped putting V-8's in passenger cars. It was also done becauseDetroit was competing against foreign imports, all of which were rated inliters.

My previous CC car was a 95 cirrus, no 1 big problem wiht it,oh yeah, maybe 1, warped rotors at 18k miles but in fact it wasn't such a big problem (never stranded, never trans problems, never electrical (first day horn got stuck, that's it, not electrical per se)oh, not sure if my AC had a little problem (or was just low in freon, R14 in fact) it worked fine but compared with my new avenger was not so cold.And yes, I was in the shop numerous times, all to fix little detailsor TSBs all covered under warranty, or service if due; but I have beengenerally happy with CC cars and service.I have a 1986 Dodge Omni GLH. I bought it used with 42k miles on it. It currently has 125K miles. I've had 3 problems. The power module went bad on me. This is a really stupid design becuase it was only the voltage regulator section that went bad and I had to replace the whole unit with a rebuilt one. To top it off the stupid rebuilt one started to intermittently fail which cost me 4 trips to the dealer until he figured out the problem. The next problem was the fuel pump went bad at around 80k miles. This started as an intermitant problem and the progressively got worse. It was an easy replace, but the cost $350, was way high. The last problem was when the head gasket blew at around 105k. I had let the battery die and so I had to roll start the car. When the car did finally start, it started with a big cloud of white smoke. The part was not expensive, but I spent a whole day pulling and replacing the head. I would consider my car very reliable.
