Why didn't they continue and build the original number intended?The initial build forecast for the '68 Road Runner was 4,000 and Chryslerbuilt over 44,000 of those. Could it be because the '68 Road Runner turnedout to be a popular, hot-selling automobile, and the '70 Superbird was not?Further, the reason that the fact that Chrysler built more Superbirds thannecessary cannot be used as a barometer as to whether or not the car was ahot-seller, is because *all* of the cars Chrysler *ever* built were sold todealers and *eventually* they were able to find a customer for every one,whether it was a popular, hot-selling car or not. Ford dealers wereeventually able to sell every Edsel they had in their inventories. Chryslercould have built 5,000 Superbirds but the dealers would have had new '70Superbirds on their lots until 1975 (or maybe much later, what with the gascrisis at the time). 5,000 Superbirds built would hardly have beenconsidered a success then. Car dealerships have to buy the cars themanufacturers give them, whether they want to or not, but they might getstuck with a car which they might have to sell years later for much lessthan what they had paid for it. chrysler dealers : I am working from the 1999 CR Used Car Guide. It gives a poor ratingfor reliability for the Dodge Intrepid. It shows improvement in the1997 and 1998 models but 1993-1996 is covered with black marks.However, in 1996 when I bought my 1995 Intrepid it considered it to bea good used car.In my own experience Chrysler has been making some negative progress.The A604 transmission in my 1989 Voyager was supposed to be the worstautomatic transmission ever made. My first one lasted for 84,000miles. The 42LE transmission in my Intrepid needed a rebuild afteronly 34,000 miles, but at least it was under warranty. I had fluidand filter changes done by Chrysler dealers on both transmissions. Inthe case of the Intrepid, the failure came only 2,000 miles after theservice was done. My second A604 transmission in my Voyager lastedonly 29,000 miles and it was a Chrysler rebuilt. I've got about40,000 miles on the current A604 in my Voyager and I am keeping myfingers crossed that it will hold out a little while longer until Ican get rid of it.I must say the Chrysler dealers I have worked with have not beenarrogant. They have been downright apologetic at times. However, so does pond scum."There are 4 Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge/Jeep dealers near me. None of them arewhat I would classify as competent. One "lost" my car for 3 days in one oftheir satellite lots. Another jerked me around for 2 weeks trying to get myABS fixed, kept giving me BS stories like the "Master cylinder is overpressured and keeps blowing high pressure hoses". Another one, theJeep/Eagle dealer at the time, kept telling me my Premier is not a Chryslercar. The fourth cracked the windshield by bottoming the car out so hard thatit dented in the oil pan.None of them listen to a word you say and usually end up fixing only half ofwhat you tell them. The service manager are usually arrogant anduncommunicative. Most of the mechanics are dimbulbs, I even had tophysically show one what part was inoperative.With my experience over the last 3 years, even though I think the 300M andthe Intrepid R/T thatr's coming out are beautiful cars, no way am I buyingone if this is the kind of service I can look forward to. chrysler dealers : Well, actually it's a Renault... I feel very lucky :)How 'bout asking the Chrysler dealers to add their names of the f***ing s****ycustomers and attitudes they have to deal with???I assume their is more than one dealer in town, why keep going to thesame one , you can also try a Dodge dealer there is no badging on theNeon to distinguish it as a Plymouth or Dodge, probably doesn't matteranyway as any CHRYSLER dealer probably is authorised to perform serviceBased upon the personal, unsolicited reply I received from the original posterwho started this thread I can tell you that he would probably have the sameproblem at any dealer he went to as the s****y attitude seems to be his (atleast that's what he told me he has a right to have in what he wrote to me).
