chrysler lhs : I am the owner of a 1996 Chrysler LHS( my wife is the driver). This isthe first Chrysler product I have ever had. We bought the car in 1999with 23,000 miles on it from a private owner. Based on what I saw atthis guys house he took care of the car. Middle aged man and wife. Asked me into their home to go over deal. Nice house, nice folks. House and yard and other vehicles looked to be well cared for. Notthe kind of guy that would cause problems with the car by neglect ormis-use/abuse.I don't know if all Chrysler cars are as badly built as this one or ifwe just happened to get a bad one. I have had to make what I considerto be way too many repairs to this car. It looks great butmechanically I just cannot believe all the things that go wrong.I have heard that certain things were recalled and / or the warrantyextended on certain repairs. I called Chrysler Corporate and feelthat the person I spoke with was less than truthful. I was askingspecifically if the warranty was extended on the evaporator and wastold no.
chrysler lhs : Anyway, here are the things replaced so far. If anyone knows if any ofthese repairs should be paid for by Chrysler please respond.12,000 miles - New front pads and rotors ( how can that be? ) ------- here is where my repairs start. The orig owner detailed theabove fixes in the back of the owners manual. I wish now I hadnoticed them before buying the car. I am sure it was still underwarranty then. ---------------50,000 - 60,000 (over a 8 - 10 month period) - Bunch of front end work. Upper and lower controller arms on bothsides. Tie rods, ends etc etc. I would have to get out the receiptbut it was really most of the components.- Intake manifold gasket at the dealer. Service Engine light tippedme off on that one. Ran like crap until fixed. Also, air bag lightwould not go off. Dealer installed new side sensor and problem wentaway.- AC evaporator. All the freon leaked out. My wife actually showedme. It looked like smoke coming out of the vents. When I was gettingwe have an early run 94 lhs. repairs too many to list, but the AC has beenfixed at least 6 or 7 times, some under warranty. a year ago bought a 2001sebring coupe because it's about 90% mitsu, so i felt safe. however i willnever buy another chrysler content product unless their quality improvesdramatically [i do like the looks of the pacifica though :) ] chrysler lhs : don sorry to say but the evap. sway bar links and water pump is a commonissue with the old style lh carsthe car does not upper control arms so if you bought those you got rippedoff.the radio was made by Mitsubishi and there was and still is issues withthose radiosesp. with cd drivesdon't let this car make you dislike the lh cars the car is a great rideand if you owned any car with 72k on the clock. you would be spendingmoney on it.just so you know in 2 years you will be able to get a new lh rear wheeldrive car with a small block hemi so there is hope on the horizonyesterday i make a screen to cover any small opening on a lh car were theheater gets fresh air so it will keep out any leaves and debris that mightcause oxidation to take place on a evap coil. makes it last longerYou must be right about the controller arms. It was over a year agoand I have not taken out the receipt to refresh my memory. I justremember it was a lot of parts.Maybe I am alone in this, but 72K does not seem like high mileage tome. Water pumps maybe but this many front end parts seems like baddesign/production. Even the water pump really should not be gone fromwhere I sit. chrysler lhs : I do like the look of the car and the trunk is huge for when wetravel. When we bough the car I figured to get 7 or so years from itbut now I am not sure. I am afraid that I will end up fixing the sameproblems multiple times and that just burns me. I consider waterpumps to almost be "normal" maint, but you should only have to do itonce. The front end parts though, are not normal. I have never hadto fix the front end on any other car i have had. I drove an 85 Buickunti llast year and did not put anything into the front end until thecar was 15 years old! A mechanic buddy of mine says that today manymore front end repairs are needed because the auto companies removedthe grease fittings from all the parts which causes them to fail. Ifthis is the case I guess I better get used to fixing front ends. You're not alone. I have a 97 and am on the 3rd water pump, 3rd set ofinner tie rod bushings, new struts all around, several sway bar links, and numerous other repairs with only 60K miles on the clock. My 89 NewYorker was, in my opinion, a much better made car than the my LHS. I just had the evaporator changed last month and the dealer charged me$35 for a seal kit. They said the evaporator was covered by warranty.I don't have an extended warranty so it must have been handled byChrysler. chrysler lhs : Audi has always (or at least for the last 25 years) used alongitudinal FWD engine layout. My 300M is the first FWD car I've experienced with longitudinal layoutand I was surprised at how I'd gotten used to the way a transverseengine "feels." Even though the 300M is FWD, the engine transmits itsresidual torque into the car the way the old RWD cars used to, and youcan *feel* the difference.I've made that statement before and people looked at me like I'd just sneezed in their coffee. I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices little things like that. Even at idle, any mild rocking sensation as the AIS regulates idle speed, the A/C cycles, etc. can be felt VERY differently between the two layouts. Thats one of the things that attracted me to the LH cars in the first place. It was at least slightly less alien than other front-drives.Don't really know what to say- I've got a 93 Vision (mechanically identical) and its been one of the best cars I've ever owned. Needed a water pump was at 80k. I installed the later-style pump with the large diameter pulley (also requires a different P/N timing belt) and have not changed it since, and the car now has 195,000 miles. Never touched the front suspension other than to change the "squawky" steering rack bushings. Thats a do-it-yerself job that takes about an hour. Had the fuel-rail recall done (I'd already changed the O-rings once, Chrysler reimbursed me for my expenditure even though it took place prior to the recall). After getting warped front rotors twice within 50k miles, I bought a set of aftermarket Wagner rotors. No brake trouble since then.
