chrysler pacifica : Handling. The rear suspension is copied from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan in — finally — an example of thesynergy touted when Daimler took over Chrysler. It makesthe rump stable and allows Pacifica to zip around cornerswithout tail-end toss-and-roll typical of some Chryslerdesigns. Steering and brakes feel about right, too.Well, that tells us quite a bit about what we're going to read. Alwaysconsider the source! USA Today is written at a third-grade level. Any ofyou parents out there planning on letting your third-graders buy a car?At least they've given up on the "merger" nonsense. One variant of fiddly controls is not necessarily better than another.Whatever. I *vastly* prefer Chrysler's method (press "set", then press thebutton you want the station on). It's "cumbersome" only to those whosuffer from shameful laziness or third-rate journalistic training. AndI've found more than five or six stations worth their own buttonseverywhere I've lived.God forbid you should get audiotactile feedback of how many gear positionsyou've crossed. In a *premium* car, you should have to look down forconfirmation.[So this is supposed to be the latest 'n' greatest replacement for thefamily station wagon of the 1960s, eh? Funny, a '66 Fury III wagon withany of its available engines had plenty of power when hauling lots ofpeople or cargo, *and* got much better than 13.2 mpg in 75% city, 25%freeway driving.]
chrysler pacifica : This is the vehicle that will make me happy. It will fill the void in mylife. I have always been an unhappy person because I purchase usedvehicles in the $2000 - 4000 range and extract 80 to 100k additional milesout of them. Moreover, I've been living an unhappy and depressed lifebecause I have not had any car payments, or expensive insurance premiums, nor have I worried about the paint on my car getting scratched.....Let merun out and buy one of these johnny come lately 'crossover' vehicles toalleviate my depression. Carrying a huge debtload, coupled with outrageousinsurance costs and poor fuel economy is a sure prescription for happinessin life.Very good. Now be a good little consumer and take out another couplecredit cards. Buy. Spend. Buy more. Spend more. It'll make you feelbetter. And watch a lot of TV. Remember: Discard and replace, discard andreplace. Only communists repair, restore and refurbish. You're not acommunist...are you?No I am not a communist. However, I believe many in the US take too muchfor granted. I am always asked when I am going to break down and buy a newcar. I do not see any reason to dump my beater as it provides reliabletransportation. I feel fortunate to have a vehicle to drive after not beingable to afford one at some points in my life. My friends and colleagues arealways leasing an expensive luxury car or SUV to out do each other. I mozeyalong being frugal with automobiles. Others dispose Television sets to getthe latest "plasma" or hdtv monitor. The television I purchased in 1986suits me fine. When it is no longer serviceable, I will buy a new one. My1986 Television is much more than anybody had 50 years ago. How did thehuman race survive for thousands of years without fancy cars, electronics, and other things many others deem necessary for 'happiness' in life? chrysler pacifica : Apparently, you are totally unable to discern or parse sarcasm.I was thinking seriously of dumping my Avalon for a Pacifica but thegas mileage is pathetic. To heavy a car for me.Hey, I though that a $40k car (station wagon) was too rich forChrysler's blood (wink wink). Now that we've broken through that price point, will someoneplease explain why Chrysler can't build a luxury sports sedanfor a similar price? While were sort-of on the subject, is anyone going to theNew York auto show?friday April 18 to Sunday April 27(No backpacks will be allowed on the show floor) (!)Latest production vehicles:The "new" 300M is NOT listed here. The 2004 Crossfire and Pacifica are.Concept models:(Dodge Kahuna is the only Chrysler vehicle listed here)Vehicles making their debut at the show:(this link is currently a pop-up that says to "come back April 16").If anyone's going to this, please post impressions ofnew 300 (if indeed it is introduced at this show).Been driving one since fall '99. It was great value for$30k. Now there are many such cars on the market.I want V-8, RWD, and air-conditioned / ventilated seats.I don't want to be able to move the center console side-to-side with a little bit of effort. I'd like some ofthe interior surfaces to not look so obviously plastic. chrysler pacifica : At a Mobil gas station in Oceanside California yesterday, I saw aSahara with the all new 4.7 V8 motor. The driver said he worked forChrysler Pacifica design team in Carlsbad California down the street. He would NOT tell me anything and quit checking his fluids and tookoff when I came over. NOW.....I wonder. Has anyone else heard any scuttlebutt on thismotor coming out soon? Over the years, the shop I work for has workedwith Chrysler Pacifica, and everything the played with has hit thestreets within 2-3 years. This really has me wanting to hold off onmy new order. Mike (formally )Jeep has their V8 powered 'Tabasco' Wrangler at most Jeep 101 events...maybe we'll actually see a V8 in a Wrangler in a year or two. A V8makes sense, especially since it's shorter than the inline six 4.0Lengine, which might allow for Selec-Trac and the 4-speed automatic!Jerry--Jerry BransfordPP-ASEL KC6TAY C.A.P.The Zen Hotdog... make me one with everything! How difficult would it be to swap that engine/tranny/TC into a 98 TJ?Well mechnically it wouldn't be that hard if all the correct parts areavaliable. You would need to get a new 4.7 L (Major bucks), wiring, fuelinjection, computer, all other accessories. Some of the current I6 stuffmight match up but you won't know till you do it since noone has reallydone it before. You would be a trailblazer! You would need new enginemounts. Larger radiator I imagine. And possibly a new transmissiondepending on the bolt patterns. With the new tranmission you would neednew a output shaft or possibly a new transfer case (depends on what theoutput shaft spline count is) and most likely new front and reardriveshafts since the engine will be relocating. Oh you better have D44 axles in the front and rear as well or you might tear 35c/30's up withthat kinda horsepower. Oh you'll probably have to do some custom bodywork to relocate the shifter. And possibly get creative with the enginecompartment as well. chrysler pacifica : I would say probably 15-17k wouldn't be to far outa the ball park. Andthats YOU doing all the work yourself. You will have to buy everythingfrom the dealer as well:( Since the engine is so new.3-4k engine500+ computer1k wiring2k+ fuel injection3k tranmission2k transfer case1-2k in accessories3k for dana 44'sCustom Driveshafts ?All just guesses on my part of course.. Since noone has done this.Well at least noone that will talk about it.. (JEEP!)Oh it would probably cost you use of your car for at least 3-4 weekswhile you get all the headaches figured out.. Actually probably a lot longer then that cause of the custom fab work that needs to be done.Basically you should just trade yours in and buy the 8 cyl. It would be aheck of a lot cheaper then to attempt the swap at this point in time. Or you could invest some good money in your current engine to beef it up.Bore it over, New camshaft, supercharger..etc.Now I haven't done an engine swap yet so take this all with a grain ofsalt, but I sure have done a LOT of research on the topic to at least havea clue:).
