chrysler pt cruiser : There are a few sites about it, but this one seems to be one of the most upto date: "Chrysler PT Cruiser's 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve SMPI four-cylinder engine is based on prior versions of this Chrysler engine. Ratings of 150 bhp (112kW) @ 5,600 rpm and 162 lb-ft torque (220 N-m) @ 4,000 rpm give PT Cruiser ample acceleration, hill-climbing and load-carrying ability. The 2.4-liter engine incorporates a system of counterrotating balance shafts to counteract second-order imbalance, the predominant cause of four-cylinder engine vibration."". Is it true the EPA classified the Chrysler PT Cruiser as a passenger car?A. Yes, the EPA classified the Chrysler PT Cruiser as a passenger car andNHSTA classified it as a truck. The Chrysler PT Cruiser meets car emissionsstandards at the same time it was tested as a truck for durability. It's notsurprising that a segment-buster doesn't fit into traditional segments. Asthe market continues to segment, expect to see more vehicles that don't fitinto traditional car and truck definitions." 2001 Production from Feb 14 2000 - July 14 is called "2001 Early" 2001 Production from July 14 2000 - July 2001 is called "2001 Normal"
chrysler pt cruiser : "Q. Will the cruiser ever be offered with a 6 Cylinder or 8 Cylinder engine?A. No, probably not without a revision in body structure. The enginecompartment is very tight. There may be some aftermarket turbo add-ons orsuperchargers, but the pistons and connecting rods will have to be updatedto handle the added stress. While this vehicle has "hot rod" cues, it isnot intended by Chrysler be a speed demon, rather focusing more on style, functionality and versatility." There, I hope that allays *your* fears of MY new car/truck......NOT'minivan'.......purcha se. <G>"Ample acceleration, hill-climbing and load-carrying ability" is subjective. Iwon't argue with the reviewer. But, then again, I think the new Corvette's areslow...Remember that a NHTSA truck classification means that it doesn't have to meetscrict safety requirements. And I had read in several sources that the EPA hadbeen convinced to rate the PT Cruiser as a truck. Wow. DC must be fuming.Yes. It's become a stereotype for grocery-getter, soccer moms, thatkinda thing. Not that there's a darn thing wrong wiht motherhood andhome and hearth, but it's not an *exciting* image to present to theoutside world. chrysler pt cruiser : Tracy Landauer wrote in message...I'm missing? Too bland? No performance? Is the 150 Hp PT Cruiser going toout-drag a 200 hp Honda Odessey? No, but does it matter? That's not whateither were built for.As opposed to the hot SUV, which just screams "I'm an exciting daredevil whospends my free time parachuting and rock climbing." Of course, when thesoccer mom and 6 tots spill out, there goes THAT stereotype!!We've got LOTS more cargo room, MUCH better gas mileage (and no note!), noshivering or sweltering in a truck bed, but snug inside, *locked* in if needbe.. Not to mention the lower jump for SheBop's elbows. And clear out thedog stuff and pop in back seats, and we can carry 8 (hey! It couldhappen!!) And in a pinch, we can all *sleep* inside, too!So what if we don't have 4 wheel drive, or even a very high clearance forour offroad jaunts. We're as comfortable as a car on the highway. It justerks me to see all the immaculate leather interior SUV's, AC on, man in suiton cell phone while I'm slinging mud from the undercarriage of my minivanfull of crates. ;->--Susan Fraser, owned and trained byHR BeBop a Lu SheBop JH SHandHR Shamma Lamma Ding Dong JH SH chrysler pt cruiser : How does the new Chrysler PT Cruiser differ from other cars in its samegenre? What makes is appealing and who are the people who buy them? Are these cars worth a glance?Suggestions on websites to look at dealing with the PT Cruiser aregreatly appreciated.I really like the styling combined with the economical nature of the PTC. According to a consumer report (not Consumer Reports magazine, rather, a report in my local newspaper), the car did very well--in some cases, exceptionally well--in all impact tests except for head-on into the passenger side, which test showed the passenger being severely injured at relatively low speeds. IIRC, the report said that Chrysler was taking that very seriously (after all, the PT Cruiser has been the only smash hit it's had since joining Daimler) and looking into fixes.Start with the Chrysler web site <>. The site itself is an example of good website construction (*if* you have a relatively good connection) IMHO.There is a link there to ask to receive more info by mail. I used it and within one week got a large packet of info on the car (all promotional, of course), sent by priority mail. I haven't heard from Chrysler or any other automotive companies since, so I guess they respect privacy. The packet included at least one (very positive) complete article written by a major automotive magazine. chrysler pt cruiser : If you're asking these questions, the car is probably NOT worth a glanceto you. It's based upon a car body, and is just "cool looking".(That isn't meant negatively.. I think it's cool looking, and I drive a different cool looking car, a Miata... but in general I'm against styleover substance.. [which is why I'm typing this in vim as opposed to somebloated GUI crap newsreader/editor]..)So I think that unless the car strikes you as "oh cool, I want one," it'sprobably not for you.Go get a Prius or the other gas/electric hybrid and feel good!I've put 6200 miles on my pt since 7/5. Very pleased with it. A little short on low end pick up unless you floor the pedal. Go to ptcruiserclub.org. On Fri theu Mon they have a free open chat session online. _ (_) Daniel Warren, RPh _______// Marion NY (________) Clinical Staff Pharmacist - Strong Memorial Hospital \ / /______\ (________)So far 6700 trouble free miles.
