chrysler sebring : -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnThere is a difference in brake squeal and bad brakes. On many front discbrake cars the pads have a tendancy to chatter or vibrate in the caliperwhich produces a squealing sound. The brakes are ok, they still stop, butthe sound is annoying. Several companies make compounds you can use on thebacks of the pads to cushion them against the piston and stop the squeal. Idid this on my son's car the other day: jack it up, remove the wheel, carefully release the caliper and ease the pistons back a little bit, spreadthe goo (really a high temp silicon caulk-like substance) on the anti-chatterplate (most cars have them), let it dry a little and put it all backtogether. Total time, about 20 min. per side, including drying time.On the other hand, a grinding sound indicates the pads are worn completely outand the metal backing plate or rivets are cutting grooves in your rotors--verybad! The only resolution there is put on new pads and turn the rotors, ifpossible, if not, buy new rotors!
chrysler sebring : -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnI am the owner of a 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible with VERY, VERY SQUEAKYBrakes. I bought the car used in July 98 with 18,000 miles on it. Thebrakes have squeaked from the beginning. I have had the front brakesreplaced and then the dealer I bought it from said the rear brakes were onwrong and replaced these. No improvement. I am told that brakes squeakbecause manufacturers can no longer use asbestos. If this is so, why don'tALL brakes squeak. What is your problem?-----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnThis this seems to have turned into a brake problem post, I'll add mine. . .Got my '96 at 17,000 miles. Brakes have to be replaced about every6,000-10,000 miles. They squeak horribly. I agree with whomever said thatif the squeaking is because of the materials in the brakes, why don't allcars sound as bad as mine! The brake pads on mine have actually shredded andfallen off of the car! This happened at about 10,000 miles after the dealerinstalled new rotors and front brake pads. It was the second time the frontbrake pads had shredded and failed. I'm still having problems. The dealerhad to replace one pair after about 3,500 miles. From my understanding thenew models have an improved front brake system. Something larger or moreheavy duty. I've asked a tech from the Chrysler zone office to see if theolder Sebrings can be retrofitted with the new, improved brake system. chrysler sebring : -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnI bought my 1997 JXi in August of 98 with 7000 miles on the clock. It now hasover 19000 and all I've done is rotate tires and change oil. At one time Ithought the brakes felt weak, like the master cylinder was going out and thedealer changed it out even though they thought it was ok. I've had a littleleak in the top and some door panel clips that have broken. Nothing major andcertainly no lemon law stuff. Are you having lemon law-type problems? Are these dealer related problems orcar related problems? In other words, is the dealer just inept or there someserious problems with your car. Most of the complaints I hear are with thecoupes and the convertibles seem to be relatively problem free. At leastthat's my experience.-----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnI don't think my answer to your post made it the first time I tried. If so,I apologize for posting a second time. I have a '96 I purchased at 17,000miles. The Texas Lemon Laws do not cover used vehicles. chrysler sebring : Besides a really bad water leak that the dealer can't seem to fix (See myposting about it) here is a list of some of the other problems I've had: I'vereplaced rack and pinion steering under the original 36,000 mile warrantyperiod -- can't remember mileage. The head gaskets, cams and the exhaustmanifold were replaced about 59,000 miles (and I baby this car!) Thank god Ihave a 100,000 Chrysler Customer Care Maximum service policy. Of course, thebrakes are a constant problem. I've had to put on new rotors because of thebrakes pads actually shreading and falling off of the car (dealershipinstalled). The seat beat bezels were replaced about 4 or 5 times under the36,000 mile warranty. They continue to break and come off but they aren'tcovered anymore. The plastic inside passenger seat where the bezel attachescracked and broke recently (and I hardly have passengers). The ABS sensor hasbeen replaced - about 60,000 miles. AC has been fixed a couple of times under36,000 mile warranty. The AC temperature regulator cable has been fixed acouple of times. Also, the dial that switches inside to outside air has beenfixed a couple of times. The cruise control sometimes speeds up when youpress coast/set, but shop keeps saying there is nothing wrong with it. Sorry,I'll stop at this. I'm getting depressed and I bet you are too. But thereis more. You should see my receipts. The notebook looks like a shop manual! chrysler sebring : A new newsgroup has been created at alt.autos.chrysler.sebring fordiscussions about the Chrysler Sebring convertible and coupe.
