chrysler vans : The current generation vans are relatively rattle-free and fairlyreliable. We have had 3 vans (of each generation) an '89 Voyager LE 3.0L, a'91 Caravan SE 3.0L, and now a '96 Voyager Rallye 3.3L. The vans have gottenbetter and quieter in each successive version we had. All were bought new,and though all were relatively reliable, the '89 was the least reliable andthe '96 has been the most reliable. But, I'm only talking minor problemswith the '89 (steering system), and practically no problems with the '96except the phantom wiper just occuring now (50,000 km's), and very rareoccasions where the ABS light would lite up, usually in cold weather, andsolved by turning the engine off for 10 seconds and restarting. However, nomajor problems that have left us stranded (except for some bad gas once - myfault!). IMHO, the Chrysler vans are still the best on the market, even with allthe competition. They cut a corner here and there, but still offer the bestall-around minivan. Plus, the next-gen models are coming out in mid-2000,which should bring a renewed class-leader.
chrysler vans : Hmmm, that's odd, Drew, because I just looked at a '99 Voyager SE at ourdealership with the optional 3.8L V6. It also had some of the other goodypackages but it wasn't an Expresso. Perhaps if you wait awhile one willbecome available in your area. Mind you, I am in BC, Canada which might makea difference. Maybe Chrysler is going to increase production of the 3.8L and decrease3.3L production, it seems most SE or LE vans these days have the 3.3.According to the sales manager at our dealership, it's virtually impossible toget a standard length SE with the 3.8L, though there are a few Grand SEsfloating around with the larger engine. Of course, maybe he's saying this inorder to get us to buy something from the dealer's inventory...I'm certainlygoing to keep looking. Maybe I'll wind up in BC!-----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnI'm sure if you went into any reputable dealer, and custom-ordered a vanright from the factory, you could get a short-wheelbase SE 3.8L. You'dprobably have to wait a month or two, though, but having something the wayyou exactly want it is often worth the wait. We got lucky with our '96Voyager Rallye, it had almost everything we wanted and had a hefty discountbecause it was the end of the year. It just happened to be sitting on thelot when we were shopping around. chrysler vans : I still wish we had custom-ordered a Caravan Sport, though! The Rallyedoesn't have quite as nice handling as the Sport (no rear sway bar, 15"comfort vs. 16" touring tires, no firmer struts, etc.)Well, we did go ahead and order a new one. It's a '99 standard-lengthVoyager Expresso with the "N" package. It *may* come with a 3.8L but mostlikely it will be a 3.3L. I drove a new Voyager SE with the 3.3L & decided Icould certainly live with it (seemed pretty punchy in fact!). One verypositive thing is that the 4-speed auto trans in the '99 I drove seemed toshift a lot more smoothly than the '98 I took a spin in awhile back.Oh ya, my wife insisted on the deep amethyst color. I'll get over it as longas no one calls it "purple"!-----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnDeep amethyst? Is that anything like the deep iris colour of '96(principally, the Voyager Rallye)? Drew, you might have the same van as I!Yeah, people call our van purple! The new purple is much more purple. Shiny, even. If youdon;t want to call it purple, try "eggplant" or "aubergine"!<g> chrysler vans : Well, Town & Countrys are great mini vans..and I highly recomend them...Wehave owned many Chrysler vans: a 88 Grand Caravan, 90 Grand Caravan LE, 93T&C, and now we own a 97 Plymouth Grand Voyager with a Mark III conversionpackage with a raised roof..The vans get better each year..there was a postsaying you could get a caravan with the same features at a better price, that is true and that is the was I would go..you can get a Grand Caravan ESwith leather and gold trim(the red or black exterior looks best i thinkgorgous Limited.. I think the Honda oddessy is a nice van, but the only chrysler van you cancompare it to is a plain Voyager..you cant get leather or any cool stuff onit, and about the whole easy folds rear seat, its neat but it leaves a hugelip that you have to lift the cargo out of when you have the seat up..its areal pain..About the GM vans....well you can expect what you expect from most GMcars..crap...sorry thats from a lot of experirnce with GM..oh well chrysler vans : ps..look for program vans...you can get awesome deals on them..Save yourself alot of problems avoid GM Vans......If you must buy American stick with a Chrysler/Dodge/PlymouthIf your willing to fork over the dough for a Toyota Sienna well thats another choice. The current generation of Chrysler vans are a vast quality improvement overthe last generation, but far from perfect in that department. The only othervan of quality is from Toyota and Honda and the Toyota is expensive andsmall inside, and the Honda is in short supply, and is not yet fullyequipped like a top of the line T&C. But it sports independent rearsuspension, and a center rear shoulder belt, two features not yet offered byChrysler, and a superb engine. The next generation Chrysler vans will be outin less than 10 months, perhaps sooner. I would thus give serious thought toa good used Chrysler T&C or other nicely equipped 1966 or newer model andwait to purchase a new one till the new generation hits the street. A good1966 can be had for under $17,000. A 98 SE without leather is about thesame.
