crossfire chrysler : Give us the _real_ hemi-C convertible and the Charger, and givecontrol of Chrysler back to Auburn Hills.C/D did a feature on how much (actually, how little) changed for the production model a couple of months ago. The main dimensional change was making the rear passenger area wider (not the whole car) and thus the boattail taper less. Had to do with how far passengers' heads needed to be from the windows/roof.And give Dodge its independence while they're at it. That 1920s acquistion never set well with us die-hard MoPar fans! No, the only "advantage" to the merger was saving Mercedes from the dustbin of history. Mercedes mechanicals are hardly an improvement over *anything* except maybe a mid-80s Chevrolet.Ahem, very interesting, a vast producer of cars, buses and trucks (the realthing, not puny SUVs laughingly called trucks in the USA) being "consignedto the dustbin of history" by not buying an American manufacturer that hashad a rather checkered history when its motor divisions are doing verynicely, thank you?DAS-----NB: To reply directly replace "nospam" with "schmetterling"---"Steve& quot; wrote in message...

crossfire chrysler : One of the listed specs says "Air Compressor".Huh? You mean I can inflate a tire or football with it?------------------DETROIT - Availability - and profits - will be slim this year for the2004 Chrysler Crossfire. It will be year end before every dealer selling the Crossfire receivesat least one. Dealer profits will be squeezed by an $8,100 charge tosell the halo car. The Chrysler group, which is opening the spigot slowly on theCrossfire, designed to move the Chrysler brand upscale. Only 8,700units will be available in the U.S. market in 2003, says MarcHenretta, company spokesman. The car begins arriving in dealershipsthis week. "The company is promising that every dealer who signs up for Crossfirewill have one by the end of the year," says dealer Michael Faretta."You might not make any money on the car when all is said and done. You may not make 10 cents on the car itself, but you will get peoplethinking about Chrysler. It is an image car." The company says 1,850, or 63 percent, of the Chrysler brand's 2,946dealerships are authorized to sell the Crossfire. Assuming 2,000dealerships sign up, that is 4.4 cars per store.

crossfire chrysler : Faretta, owner of D & M Chrysler Jeep Inc. in Altoona, Pa., sellsabout 700 new units annually. He says he has been allocated three 2004Crossfires. The $8,100 dealer charge pays for $6,600 in tools and diagnosticequipment, $1,200 in parts inventory and $300 in technician and salestraining, the company says. (Heh. Welcome to the merger. I wonder if Merc dealers are any bettersetup to service the Crossfire.)I don't think Karmann has a factory in the USA. Who cares where it's made?2e0028a132.htmlDAS-----NB: To reply directly replace "nospam" with "schmetterling"---"Mopar Man" wrote in message...No, that "lingo" has been around the US industry for a long time. It's a flagship car, like Viper was for Dodge or Prowler for Plymouth, Thunderbird for Ford, Corvette for Chevrolet, etc.Maybe. I wonder if Ford's investigated why the Thunderbird sells so poorly. Lack of a manumatic might be one, and that's odd considering the Lincoln LS offers one. Maybe the fact that the interior isn't unique, and actually looks cheap, is another.DAS-----NB: To reply directly replace "nospam" with "schmetterling"---"Lloyd Parker" wrote in message................................. ........................................ ..................

crossfire chrysler : True, but if you count only the models Mercedes sells in the US, aren't we the biggest market for them? Leave out the A-class, the diesels, the vans, etc.I have no figures to hand (will try to find out) but I doubt that even ifyou count C Class to S Class & M Class only that US sales are greater thanin Gemany. Anyway, aren't all passenger car classes sold in the USA otherthan A? {Nobody considers the Smart a Merc (yet?) -- another story.}Often forgotten that C & E Class are top sellers in Germany, quite a largecountry.I don't know what the merit of removing diesel engines from the count is, asin Germany they now account for over 55% of sales and rising (true of BMWand Audi, which has a much higher percentage of diesels. As you probablyknow, in Germany and other countries Merc have cornered the market in taxis. So if you just compare petrol/gasoline engine sales (a declining percentageof sales) I am not sure which So What? test is passed.DAS-----NB: To reply directly replace "nospam" with "schmetterling"---"Lloyd Parker" wrote in message...etc.

crossfire chrysler : We don't get any of the vans (Sprinter sold under Dodge and Freightliner brands). No diesels. And not all variants -- no AMG wagons or 4Matics, for example, no smaller engines than 3.2 L in E or CLK. No large trucks. The lack of diesels is a long story. The last diesel, the E300 turbodiesel, didn't sell well, and then our new diesel emission regulations came along. Mercedes didn't see the point of getting its new CDI diesels to meet US specs when those specs were going to outlaw it in a few years. Our high-sulfur diesel fuel is the big problem. Now our diesel fuel has to be cleaner in a few years, and MB has said they will bring over the E320 CDI for 2004. It won't be available in California, New York, or most New England states, which have even stricter diesel emission regulations, at least until our diesel fuel drops much lower in sulfur.I was aware of the "the state of diesel" in the US. I guess that the risingquality of diesel/diesel engines has had much to do with increasing sales inEurope.
