denali gmc : I wouldn't buy one, but I think some one who has more money than they know what to do with will buy it. I have a 1984 GMC Jimmy (big) and an S15 1988 GMC Jimmy and they are just fine. Pull the boat and put in the water, and does well on off road..... Picked mine up a few days ago, love it. It drives much nicer thanaregular 4dr yukon. Doesn't feel as floaty, but rides smoother. Seats areway improved over the regular ones. If you don't mind the price it's agreat truck.Has anyone taken delivery of the new GMC Denali? Are you satisfied? Is this enough to comfortlypull 7200+ in flat - hilly terrain?I assume you are looking at the Yukon XL and not just a Yukon.I have a 2002 Suburban K2500 (3/4 ton 4x4) 8.1L 3.73 which is the same asthe Yukon XL except for some trim. I am pulling a 26RS Outback that weighsin at 4800 empty. I traded a 99 Yukon which was rated at 6800 gvwr. When Itook it to the scales it weighed 6200 with my family and fuel. Adding thetongue weight and some gear threw me over the limit. The Suburban weighs6900 lbs with my wife and I and an empty tank, but the gvwr is 8600. Iweighed it before I bought it. For the most part I cannot tell the traileris back there. I do find that on the small Indiana hills it does shift downto third, but I can maintain 60-65 mph with no problem. The ride is not badwith or without a trailer and is much beter than the Yukon was because ofthe difference in wheel base.

Weigh it before you buy it -you will be shocked how much it really weighs when you add options andDenali plastic.Based on my experience you will end up getting a 3/4 ton. The only questionis if you get it now or later. My trailer is around 6000 loaded. If I wasgoing to pull 7200+ I would be looking at a 3/4 ton extended or crew cab.Don: Does your 8.1 L show signs of the piston slap problem? So with vehicle gassed and loaded, I'dguess the true GM tow rating is around 7800 lbs.How much + is 7200+? I tow around 6000 lbs with my Denali XL and forthis weight, it is a great tow vehicle. I think you'll have adequatepower with the 6.0 engine and 3.73 rear end and assuming you don'tcare if you might nuke the tranny, the real issue will be stabilityand brakes. 7,200+ lbs is a big load and as much as I love my Denali,if I had to tow that kind of weight, I'd go for the 3/4 ton, 8 liter,4.11 rear end Yukon XL (which won't ride anywhere near as nice as theDenali).
