It's nice to geta good run like that in the first session. It makes it a little easier tomake changes for the next round to insure a better run. You can take alittle bit more of a chance with the truck set-up when you aren't on theedge of the field. The track didn't seem too bad for us, but we had theright combination. Everybody seemed to be having a problem getting offthe starting line and most were slow at the 60-foot line. We hope to getfaster tonight but I would expect the field to gain more on us than us togain on the field. We made a really good run and most of the fieldstruggled. Hopefully we can go out and have another good run in the nextsession."Rick Jones (Country Motors Trailer Sales GMC Sonoma) - "We didn't make agood run at all. We had a problem during the first session at Columbus, changed a lot of things on the truck and thought we found the problem. The truck did run better here on the first run than it did in Columbus, but we spun the tires real hard, had a few other problems going on andjust had a bad run - I'm surprised it went as fast as it did. Hopefullytonight we can step it up and get up to where we normally are in the field- which is the top-half. For as hot as it is the track wasn't really thatbad. The right lane was really bumpy and the left lane is definitely thepreferred lane here. We'll be in the left lane tonight with the CountryMotors Trailer Sales GMC Sonoma. We're going to go out, try and get ourbest time and hopefully have a great run." gmc com : GMC SONOMA RACING40th Annual AutoZone WinternationalsPomona RacewayFebruary 5, 2000Pomona, Calif. (February 5, 2000) - Qualifying for the Pro Stock Truckswas completed today at the 40th annual AutoZone Winternationals at PomonaRaceway. John Lingenfelter put in one of the Sonoma brand's bestqualifying efforts since its introduction into the NHRA Pro Stock Truckseries last March. Lingenfelter's Summit Racing Sonoma qualified in theNo. 6 position with an elapsed time of 7.577 seconds at 177.88 mph andwill have lane choice in round one of elimination's tomorrow morning. David Spitzer added to the Sonoma's brand's success this weekend byqualifying the Dynagear/Sunnen GMC in the No. 7 position with an elapsedtime of 7.587 seconds at 176.35 mph. Spitzer will also have lane choicefor round one. It is the first time that GMC hasput three Sonoma's into the 16-truck starting field for finaleliminations. The No. 1 qualifier is Steve Johns in an S-10 with anelapsed time of 7.527 seconds at 178.99 mph. Bob Panella is qualifiedsecond, Brad Jeter is third, Greg Stanfield is fourth and John Coughlin isfifth. gmc com : John Lingenfelter (Summit Racing GMC Sonoma) -- "We changed transmissionratio's after our run yesterday and we're towards the end of the line forthe last qualifying session, so the track should be slightly better forthe Summit Racing Sonoma. We're hoping to just maintain fourth position, because there's one or two trucks out there that could move ahead of usthat have been struggling all weekend. It will probably be a hair slowertonight."Second Session: We feel pretty comfortable going into tomorrow's race. Our goal coming into this first event was to try and qualify in the tophalf of the field and we've been able to do that. We have some new enginepieces that are going to be ready in about two weeks so we're lookingforward to that. We've been a little bit down on power from some of thebest trucks, but we're happy with our situation tonight. The SummitRacing Sonoma is working well and we're able to make adjustments to itthat seem to work. We're not lost and that may be the best thing yet. Ithink we can be as competitive this year as we were in '98 when wefinished second in the point standings. We have a real good programtogether with our engine department and a lot better handle on thischassis. We got completely lost last year with a new chassis and had towork on it for most of the year. In doing that we sacrificed on theresearch and development work with our engine program. Now we're back tothe old truck and things are looking better. I feel good about what we'redoing, the people we have really work well together and there's aconsiderable amount of synergy with this team." No. 6 qualifier -7.577ET/177.88MPH
