gmc dealers : ROMEO RAABE wrote in messageI have some very good reasons for disdaining most places that changeoil, but especially the dealers. I have been a service manager atFordand GM (auto dealers, not diesel truck dealers). We always hired the(close to) minimum wage 18-20 year old to change oil. There's notmuchprofit in it. We always had good techs ( earning 40-50,000 per yearandworth it) for repairs. Don't equate their service knowledge andabilitywith the lube man, or the janiter for that matter. There is a lotofchange over of personel at the quick lube places or the lube man atdealers. How much do burger flippers care about the quality of theirwork? This is the equivalent of burger flippers. And you let them be"responsible" for the lifeblood of your expensive vehicle? If a zerkfitting won't take grease, how many "burger flippers" bother to bringitto the attention of the service writer or manager? Too many of themdon't give a Da**. I always change my own oil and lube the chassismyself. Shell Rotella T is $29.00 a case at Sams for a case of 6gallons and a Fram filter at Fleet Farm is less than $7.00. I nolongeruse Fram fllters, but the total cost for 10 quarts oil and a filter isunder $20.00 and I know its done right. I also know I looked foranything else that might be needed. My brother in law wanted me toruna quick lube place for him but he said the biggest part of the job isconstantly hiring replacement workers - this is not a career - thinkabout it!

gmc dealers : Definitely wait for the Expedition to show up at the Ford dealers, about September. I don't say this so you'll buy the Expedition, but so you'll get a cheaper price on the Yukon! The Chevy/GMC dealers will only start to deal on their Tahoes/Yukons once Ford's Expedition arrives. Without competition, the Chevy/GMC dealers are getting full MSRP price and then some! They laugh at you if you ask for even $3.00 off!! When the Expedition finally hits the Ford dealers, you'll see the Chevy/GMC dealers finally start to scramble and grovel for your business. About time, too! The standard GM engine is 25-30 HP more than the Ford, 250 HP on the Tahoe/Yukon vs about 220 or 225 for the larger of the two available Expedition engines. I also personally think the Chevy interior is better designed than the Expedition's. The Ford interior looks too overstuffed, if you know what I mean. It's also not quite as long as the Ford, but according to two magazine reviews, it has a few more cubic feet of storage capacity in back than the Expedition, even without Ford's optional 3rd row of seats installed. I would venture that the Ford brakes are better than the Tahoe/Yukon though.

gmc dealers : I have been looking to purchase a Chevy/GMC truck to tow with. TheDiesel option is substantially cheaper than on a Ford or Dodge. They are also much harder to find. I have also heard rumors of factoryproblems. I would desperately like to hear from any owners, eitherpositive or Negative, before I make such a large investment. Thanks, BIGKALWell, first of all, I do not own a Chevy/GMC diesel. However, depending on what load you will be pulling, the engine just may fill the bill. Of the three diesel pickups on the market, the Chevy/GMC is a bit "whimpy." However, the engine, made by Detroit Diesel, I believe, is a good engine and should give you many years of faithful service. Since I tow a fifth wheel with an 11,500 lb GVWR, I opted for the Ford Power Stroke.I haven't had too good of luck with my 6.5 Turbo diesel. The dealerreplaced the complete engine under warranty at about 40 K miles. Thetow ratings for the Ford and Dodge is much better.I think I'll go with the Ford PowerStroke next time. Their heavytruck chassis is due to be restyled shortly, I'll probably get a '99.

gmc dealers : I like Cummings engines, would like more displacement (biggerengine). Maybe Dodge will upgrade by '99. In '93 the Chev seemed theway to go, Ford didn't have a turbo, and the Dodge rode like a stagecoach. Oh well, things change.Have a '93 3/4 TD standard cab with 4.10's and a 5-speed. Very pleased with the truck (80k miles) and frankly believe that the lower noise level and reasonable price are well worth the other tradeoffs. I have consistently got 19.5 MPG combined city and highway driving. While I rather prefer the additional ground clearance I might have gotten with Ford or Dodge, that is the only real drawback I have come up with. Look at the numbers, and the torque and HP figures are not really all THAT superior either. Formerly owned a 6.2 (non-turbo) GMC and there is no comparison on power and overall usefulness of the two vehicles. Check out the Unofficial 6.2/66.5 Diesel Page. The 6.5TD in my 95 Chevy 1/2 Ton has performed flawlessly. I really likeit. I had a 87 Chevy with 6.2L before the new one. Sold it with 170Kmiles and still going strong. Early 6.5TD's (94-95) with Stanadyne DB4electronic injector pumps had some problems, but those have now beenresolved in 96 and later models. 97 6.5 models ?? may match the HP andtorque of the Powerstroke as GM is cranking them up. Check out for lots of GM diesel info.

gmc dealers : -------------------==== Posted via Deja News ====----------------------- Search, Read, Post to UsenetWe have a 95 1 ton chevy 6.5L TD. Has 30,000 miles and no trouble at all.We wish it had a bit more power, but no real complaints. We likeeverything about it. Gets 9-10 pulling a 10,000 # 5th and around 15unloaded. BobBigKal wrote:I can't advise you on the diesel, but I can recommend the GMC product. I have a 1988 Surburban 3/4 ton with over 200K miles on it and it stillgets on down the road with my 31' Airstream. I also drive it to workeverday.I can't speak for the reliability of the GM diesel, but I have a 96 GMCand I will NEVER buy an other General Motors product! I bought the trucknew because I have better things to do than spend my time in the repairshop, like go camping. Well, this truck has been in the shop 6 times inthe past 9 months. Each time it is in the shop there is a laundry list ofthings wrong, oil leaks, front end alignment problems, squeeks, brokenplastic pieces, and on, and on........If you have your heart set on one of these trucks go for the Chev. In mytown there are two GMC dealers, and about 8 Chevy dealers. When you havewarranty problems, and you will, the Chevy dealer cannot work on the GMC. If the GMC dealers in you area don't have good repair shops you could bein trouble.
