gmc jimmy : We studied the GMC Jimmy and I went as far as tracing the VIN# through theinternet and found it to be 100% clean. No problems, no recalls, no damages,no accidents, no major repairs. It came from Lyndhurst, NJ as a brand newlease in '99 and someone drove it for 20k miles and simply turned it back in. CarMax in Richmond, VA bought it from NJ and had it shipped here. It's reallynice and drives smooth. It has a 5000 towing capacity and will easily be ableto handle towing my 17' I/O without a problem. At least, we're done with that stupid P.O.S. Ford Tempo. The 2.3L sideways 4banger, front wheel drive, Ford engine/tranny was not made very well!!!They gave us (believe it or not) only $150 for the Tempo because the tranny wasfinally blown and there were tons of other mechanical issues with it too. Theydeclared the Tempo (from a DMV standpoint) as "Unsafe to drive".But still, I was livid with them.... I was hollering, "The flippin tape deck isworth $100 bucks from Circuit City! C'mon guys..." But we were between a rockand a hard place. We were at dealer with a car the blew so they had us by theshort hairs.

gmc jimmy : They will most likely salvage what parts they can and junk the rest of the car. But, in the long run, we now have beautiful **mint condition** GMC Jimmy SLE.You probably got treated fairly. The dealership can't afford to take a mechanicthat will gross them $75 -$80 an hour and put her or him to work salvagingparts from a ten year old Tempo. Next stop is probably the wrecking yard or abeater auction...and lets all hope its the former. They would probably still let you take the tape deck, if you asked.Your experience reminds me of a short but related story from my auto sales days. I was on the desk one afternoon when asalesperson brought in an offer to buy a new car. The buyer was offering an oldyellow hunk of metal in "offal" condition as a trade. I took the keys and wentout to appraise the car. As soon as I opened the driver's door, the rustyhinges gave way and the whole works fell into the parking lot! Almost smashedmy toes. Needless to say, the buyer finally had to settle for a little lesstrade-in than he had initially wished for. :-)

gmc jimmy : Thanks.... I agree with you. The #1 main thing was that the tranny finallygave way and blew on the highway. The #2 thing that was bad was some emissionscanister silencer unit (?) or something. The canister rotted out and the twohoses leaked emissions, causing the car to sound like it had a bad muffler.Other annoyances with the Tempo:Passengers side front door lock (electric) was busted. It would never lock.Drivers side rear door window (electric) wouldn't go down......What can I say? When the car finally started falling apart it went fast! What a total piece of s***!!!!! We were considering donating it to the KidneyFoundation anyways, but it blew out on the way to the dealer. The window motor for that POS was / is $105 and they all fail. And shouldsell for about $20. My wifes Aerostar had 2 go out. As to the Jimmy.Check on a brake recall if it is a 4x4. My 96 Blazer and I think it wentthrough 99 had a bad switch that made the brake unit think it was in 4x4 allthe time and reuced the back braking force. Reduced the braking ability andcaused the vehicle to like new front pads. Is a free fix.Bill

gmc jimmy : I am seriously considering purchasing a new 1998 GMC Jimmy SLE. I am interested in hearing feedback from other late model Jimmy owners regarding their ownership experiences. I know that the Blazer/Jimmy has gotten a lot of bad press lately - is it all jsutified? I am basically looking for a reliable vehicle with decent off-road capability and pulling power but also good on-road manners as well. wrote: Have you driven the Jeep Grand Cherokee? If so, why are you stillinterested in the Jimmy? BobBob Have you driven the GM Suburban? If so, why are you stilldriving a JGC? BillRegards-The Suburban Home Page Remove SPAMBLOCK from email to respond.Having owned both a Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy (both virtual clones ofeach other), I can only say they're ok for the road. For off-roading,they would be nearly my last choice as an off-road vehicle. I'm notsure what WOULD be my last choice, but the RAV4 is close) In myexperience, the Jimmy/Blazer has too little ground clearance, not enoughlow-end torque, way too limited on it's suspension travel, and the 4x4system/engine combination just didn't deliver the power it should haveat low rpms when in 4x4, at least in my experience with them both. IMHO, the Jimmy is less of an off-road vehicle now than it was in theearly eighties when it first came out (1983). gmc jimmy : I Have a 97 chev blazer 4x4 and I really like it. I have driven to colorado inboth the summer and winter and enjoyed the ride even used the 4 wheel drive. The heat and AC works the best I've ever had. My one complaint is the brakeswhich seem to take longer to stop than what I am used to driving. No problemsyet and 37,000 milesscrew the jeep get a gmc they are way more better than anything i have a 1991gmc jimmy that is unstopable i am very impressed with my truck and i hope tokeep it forever I currently own a 1995 GMC Jimmy Slt and a 1993 Jeep Grand CherokeeLaredo and have had good luck with both. Can not comment on off road abilitieson either. These are my overall impressions on both. 1. Ride quality goesto the Jimmy be aware that there is several different ride packages tochoose from which will change ride and handling. 2. Front seating goes to theJimmy, I have the leather power seats well worth the money. 3. Rear seatinggoes to the Jeep 4. Engines V-6 in the Jimmy, straight 6 in the Jeep power wisethey are about the same can't see much difference. The Jimmy does feel alotsmoother from idle on up. 5. Brakes go to the Jeep I truely hate the Jimmys abssystem 6. Sound system goes to the Jimmy 7.Rear Hatch Jimmy has seperate doorand window Jeep has one door with the window I prefer the Jimmys setup it allowsyou to haul long cargo without leaving the whole hatch up. My wife and I bottomline prefer the Jimmy over the Jeep. The jimmy feels more car like when driving andthe Jeep feels more truck like and cost wise the Jimmy will give you more valuefor your money. I've read many reports on the Jimmy and do not see the faultsthat they report I would not think twice about buying another one.
