gmc safari : Saw a Photo Radar van (Plate # EKV 996) driving north on Willingdon last week.-- There's something exciting about a road, about a highway. It's an adventure. There's a rush of associations and movements. You never know where it's goingto take you or what's around the bend or what's going to cross the pathespecially on a long stretch of highway. - Michele Grijalva Not that I doubt this...but how do you know it was a photoradar van? I'm assuming you could see the equipment inside?Proud member of the Unrelated | Trikky T. Bone Marrow Donor Register. | Remove the 'nothanks' reference above. "Idiot Driver Alert." 'EKV 996' is a photo radar van -- a GMC Safari, van number 110.Michael Cain, Director of ResearchSENSE - Safety by Education Not Speed EnforcementWEB-SITE: or E-MAIL: From: ()Subject: Re: Department of Irony - Photo Radar Division Newsgroups: Date: 1998/11/06 In a recent article, (Michael Cain) decided to spoutforth with: Ah, But Michael...how do we know this? Are the licence plateson public record? Of course, if it really was speeding, it may be fin to list onmy Idiot Driver Alert web site. :-)Proud member of the Unrelated | Trikky T. gmc safari : (Geez, why does Supernews rarely pick up posts from direct.ca, I always haveto read Mr. Cain's posts second hand...)If you don't believe me... fine. I have obtained the information from various sources and have little doubt about the accuracy. Many things are on the public record. You just need to know *which* records and *what* to ask for. If you went through court transcripts (of photo radar trials) which are public records, you might find this information. You could also make an FOI (Freedom of Information) request to satisfy yourself. You could also contact the BC Liberals for copies of the photo radar van service records. As Dave notes in a subsequent posting, he also saw a photo radar van number "EKV 997" -- suspiciously close to "EKV 996". The service records for this van (105) are on our site linked from our "news" page for April 14, 1998.100 GMC Safari EEP 917101 GMC Safari FFR 530102 Chev Astro FHP 386103 GMC Safari EKV 987104 GMC Safari EKV 988105 GMC Safari EKV 997106 GMC Safari FFR 527107 Chev Astro FHP 375108 GMC Safari FFR 532109 GMC Safari FFR 526110 GMC Safari EKV 996111 - van moved to another region and renumbered. 112 - van moved to another region and renumbered. 113 Chev Astro FHP 383 gmc safari : I don't have the van colors, but I do have an uncollated list of all the VINs for all the photo radar vans.Michael Cain, Director of ResearchSENSE - Safety by Education Not Speed EnforcementWEB-SITE: or E-MAIL: From: ()Subject: Re: Department of Irony - Photo Radar Division Newsgroups: Date: 1998/11/07 In a recent article, (Michael Cain) decided to spoutforth with: Settle, Michael...I was just curious about how they wereidentified. I'd never seen any identifying marks on them, is all.Proud member of the Unrelated | Trikky T. Bone Marrow Donor Register. | Remove the 'nothanks' reference above. "Idiot Driver Alert." I was pretty sure, it also had another identifying number on the front. But the clincher was seeing a PR van with the plate # EKV 997 this morning.(Yes, there could be a 0.00000001% chance that this was a co-incidence)I was at court in Kamloops fighting a speeding ticket when ILOST! I was one of the last ones in court and when I leftI went thru Cache Creek on the way home. I saw the samecop in Kamloops court sitting on the side of the roadas you turn off to the right just before you head towardsMerrit on the Coquihalla. I was doing 10 over when hecame up behind me then I slowed. I could barely see himwhen he pulled someone over going the opposite way. I passed him while he had that person pulled over and thought I had seen the last of him when he passed mefrom behind again. The next thing is the same thingall over again. I thought for sure that before I gotto Cache Creek he wouldn't pass me again but he did itagain. This time he pulled over to where another cophad another person pulled over. I guess he wanted totell his buddy how many he scored and how court went. This cop pulled over three times and passed me each time from Kamloops before we hit Cache Creek.I think this should be illegal. He didn't have hisflashing lights on when he passed me and he hadnobody in his sights to pull over when he was speeding! gmc safari : Pretty much the question is if it is difficult and how much are we lookingat. Now the thing is the engine is in extremely rough condition. It's got265,000 city driven km (165,625 miles). First of it leaks oil into the #1chamber (burning oil - blue smoke out of exhaust ), so we'd usually changethe spark plug once a month since it would get clogged up with oil deposits. Now what causes this?? My dad tried to replace the O-rings but eventuallygave up on it because the tool quite wouldn't fit correctly. Second itleaks oil somewhere we don't know. Once when I came from school in thesummer and the engine was hot, it left a a decent size oil puddle aftersitting for a couple of hours. Third, rough starts. And do I mean rough.Doens't matter cold or hot. But it's worse when it's cold. We kinda floorit because it feels like it's missing power and shakes like hell. About 10seconds after flooring it, it runs fine again. Fourth, it stalls when warm.Backing up especially and turning. Tries to stall and then finally stallsmost of the time. I'd say 50% of the time. I also think it's got theoriginal transmission still and that shifts pretty rough from park intodrive. My dad told me since it's revs are pretty high it will do itwhenever you engage the transmission. (every gear, only shifting. ie:drive -> reverse, reverse -> drive, Park -> reverse, Park -> drive ). Anymore info and just ask. We are in southwestern Ontario, canada. We lovethat van b/c we use it for everything whenever we transport anything. Wealso have a 97 GMC Safari SLX V6 4.3 L Vortec. Tells you we're pretty loyalto the GMC brand :). gmc safari : JB> My father recently put a deposit down on a GMC Safari Van. He hadJB> some very specific options that he wanted so it had to be factoryJB> ordered. The dealer has called him a couple times and told him thatJB> the van has been delayed - and he isn't completely sure when GM willJB> actually be making them.JB>JB> Does anyone know what the deal is with GM and if this is the case?JB> Specifically, are they not producing GMC Safari Vans anymore? He isJB> ready to get the deposit back from the dealership and not deal withJB> GM because it seems ridiculous that they can't tell him exactly whenJB> the van will be manufactured.JB>JB> How can one determine exactly when their factory ordered vehicleJB> will be manufactured? You didn't say HOW LONG AGO the order was placed. You did say that somespecial equipment was ordered. Manufacturers don't keep ALL specialequipment in the plant, on the off-chance that somebody will order it.The manufacturer will not schedule the vehicle for production untileverything needed to assemble it is IN THE PLANT. Most productionschedules run three weeks ahead. I predict that the van will start downthe line three weeks after the special equipment arrives. Your GMCdealer will be REQUIRED to buy the van from GM if it is scheduled forproduction before his order cancellation notice arrives.
