gmc sonoma : Second Session: To get ready for Richmond, we'll definitely have to dosome more testing. We picked up five hundredths on that last pass afterfinally figuring out what our problem was. We'll do some work on theclutch and the chassis and go to Richmond. It was hectic trying to getthis thing done, but we wanted to be out here for GMC and Sonoma and becompetitive. Hopefully we learned something and we'll be ready for thenext race. David Spitzer (Dynagear GMC Sonoma) I really thought that this morning wewould have run better than we did. We had a little bit of a problem in lowgear but with the way it felt, I was anticipating a 7.66 or a 7.67. Theconditions were that good. There were guys running in the low 7.60s sothere's no reason why we shouldn't have been a couple of hundredthsquicker. It felt good and it didn't move around much at all. We addedmore clutch to it for that session and it really seemed to like that. Downtrack it (continued)GMC Sonoma Houston2-2-2-2didn't get loose at all so that would have to be the best run we've madeall weekend. We're going to keep going in that direction and hopefullywe're on to something. We still have some initial wheel spin but it's notas bad as it's been. If we can get this Dynagear Sonoma rolling and to the330, we should pick up about three hundredths. It's starting to cometogether. We're getting some balance, moving some weight around and we'recontinuing to learn what this truck wants.
gmc sonoma : HOUSTON, Tex. (April 8, 1999) - Pro Stock Truck qualifying for the 12thAnnual O'Reilly Nationals got under way today with two sessions at HoustonRaceway Park. RJ Race Cars GMC Sonoma driver Rick Jones made his ProStock Truck racing debut today after testing earlier in the week atAtlanta Dragway. In his first qualifying run, Jones of Galesburg, Ill.,ran an elapsed time of 7.812 seconds at 174.89 mph. In the second sessionJones Sonoma fell off to a time of 7.847 seconds at 175.16 mph. He isqualified in the 31st spot.Dynagear GMC driver David Spitzer returns for his second race behind thewheel of a Sonoma. In the first session, the Indianapolis nativestruggled with clutch problems but still posted an elapsed time of 7.743seconds at 175.02 mph. In the second qualifying session, Spitzer's Sonomajumped to the No. 12 qualifying position with an elapsed time of 7.692seconds at 175.84 mph.TNN will televise 90 minutes of racing highlights on Sunday, April 18,beginning at 12:00 p.m. Eastern with a repeat show from midnight - 1:30a.m. Eastern.Rick Jones (RJ Race Cars GMC Sonoma) We had to make six test runs onMonday to get my license. It was a thrash. The best we ran was 7.83 at174 mph, but we did what we had to do so we'll be all right. The firsttwo passes were half track passes and we had to shut it off on the firsttwo runs at 330 feet because those are the rules. For our first passtoday, we changed the setup, changed the tires, and the clutch wasprobably too light. But all in all, for our first run at a nationalevent, it wasn't too bad. We're very excited about being here. It's alot of fun. I'm pumped up, the team's pumped up and we just need to geton the ball and get this GMC Sonoma running better. We'll give it anothershot tonight but I think the 5:30 session tomorrow will be the best of theweekend. gmc sonoma : Second Session: We have a lot of work to do. We ran a 7.84 that time, and we ran pretty good speed, but we just have to get a handle on it inlow gear. It's shutting off on us and we don't know what's causing it todo that. I don't know if it's electrical or something in the fuel, butthat's where all of our performance is going right now. It happened inthe first round and then it was worse in the second session. Once we geta handle on that, the performance is going to go up. There's a lot left inthis Sonoma. We'll work on it tonight, come back tomorrow and I think we'll be a lotbetter.David Spitzer (Dynagear GMC Sonoma) We just didn't make a good run in thefirst qualifying session. We didn't have enough clutch in the Sonoma forthat run so it felt pretty soft. Houston is a pretty good race track, weknew that coming in, but not testing here before we were at a disadvantagefrom an information standpoint. We'll make the proper adjustments withthe clutch and go out and take another shot at it. We didn't have anywheel speed at all and you can't expect to generate good elapsed timeswhen you're not turning the tires. I still think we can make a good runthis afternoon. If this cloud cover holds you could get some goodperformances later today. I know that the barometer isn't dropping sothat's a good sign. You could tell that we were slow that run. It wasslipping a bit in second and third gear, and it finally caught up withitself down towards the finish line, but by that time it wasn't goinganywhere. gmc sonoma : Second Session: I haven't read the sheets yet, but I'd have to say thatour Sonoma was one of the quickest trucks that session - there's stillsomething left in it. It was a pretty good run considering conditionsweren't as good as this morning. A lot of guys slowed up but we improvedby five hundredths of a second. I think we were soft on the clutch evenduring that run so I think we can improve even more. The tires are stillspinning pretty good in low gear so I was surprised we ran the speed thatwe did especially compared to how everybody else ran. We're prettypleased to be in the No. 12 position, but I think we can still get threeto four hundredths out of it. Tomorrow night may be the key sessionthough. If its overcast and we run as late as six or seven o'clock, Ithink it could be very, very fast -- I'm in the last pair so that will benice. We're still trying to figure out the best setup on this truck. It's just a matter of figuring what gear ratio the truck wants, trackconditions, how much weight on the rear end we need and balancing all ofthat with the clutch setup. For no more passes than we have, today wasjust another couple of laps to learn by, and we learned quite a bit.yy gmc sonoma : Pomona, Calif. (February 4, 2000) - Qualifying for the Pro Stock Truckscontinued today at the 40th annual AutoZone Winternationals at PomonaRaceway. Under cool, cloudy California skies, John Lingenfelter moved hisSummit Racing Sonoma all the way up to the No. 3 qualifying spot with anelapsed time of 7.577 seconds at 177.88 mph. Rick Jones Country MotorTrailer Sales Sonoma is qualified 15th and David Spitzer's Dynagear/SunnenSonoma sits on the bump in the No. 16 qualifying position. The No. 1qualifier is Steve Johns with an elapsed time of 7.527 seconds at 178.99mph. Brad Jeter is qualified second, John Coughlin is fourth and GregStanfield is fifth.John Lingenfelter (Summit Racing GMC Sonoma) -- "We're pretty excited overour run today. We were able to move the Summit Racing GMC Sonoma fromeighth to third position because we feel the left lane was better than theright lane, and today we had the left lane. The other thing that got alittle better was the temperature -- the track was cooler, and we madesome adjustments on our truck from our earlier run yesterday to suit thecurrent conditions. Tomorrow morning we're looking to get a trackcondition for the truck set-up for the first round on Sunday. The lastqualifying session tomorrow should be the quickest of the event if thetrack conditions hold up. We feel our chances for Sunday are real good. The team is working reallywell together, and we feel really good about our chassis set-up and ourengine program. We love the look of the Sonoma, so at this point everyoneon the Summit Racing team is feeling real confident about good results onSunday." No. 3 qualifier - 7.577ET/177.88MPH
