gmc tools : Many "brand names" have done little or nothing to differentiate themselvesfrom the high volume offshore manufacturers. Most of the hand power toolsare beyond patentabililty and, as such, can be made by anybody with a mindto.Material wise, there is little economy between low cost and high cost giventhe small amounts used in each tool.If there is a difference is should show up in warranty, service andavailabilty.I did not say, however, that these tools compare with top notch professionalstuff. They are , however, gaining ground quickly in the DIY field for the reasonsyou have stated.BobI agree with you! Alot of the respected makers produce the same modelswithout the name on them! Not to mention every once in a while you stumbleonto a decent cheapie! Where did you get the router I might want to give ita try.It would make a great router table router as the lifespan on them isshortened anyway.Burn a cheapie and use the good one for other projects!Rob"Fran&Adrian Ross" wrote in message...I bought it from Bunnings (if you're in Australia) almost entirely animpulse buy as it was there and cheap and i was lamenting being without myrouter for a fornight and had work to do , and needed a spare-y anyway....(fantastic justification on my part ; )
gmc tools : "It would make a great router table router as the lifespan on them is shortened anyway.Burn a cheapie and use the good one for other projects!"*good point- if you're going to use em up pretty quickly, hell go forit.... i'm running on the asumption that each warranty replaced tool has itsown 2 years of warranty, so you could feasibly end up with a lovely systemof a new, free router every 2 years, as long, as someone else here pointedout, its for home-use or "Unofficial" buisness use... damn GSTs a pain inthe..anyway i'm kinda glad others here have have agreed, cheaper aintnescesarilly that much worse... certainly makes the dream workshop idea amore economically-viable prospect...!On Fri, 7 Sep 2001 17:10:18 +0800, "Fran&Adrian Ross" wrote:I wouldn't run very far on that assumption without taking a good lookat the manufacturers warranty statement. I work in the tech/customersupport realm of the hard drive industry and we get a lot of callsfrom customers with the same assumption you have.A week before the warranty runs out, their hard drives suddenly haveevery malady known to man. When I tell them the original warrantyperiod transfers to the new drive, and the replacement will probablybe a refurb, they change their tunes a bit. "Well, let me just seeif I can get it working and I'll call you back if I can't". Theygenerally don't call back. gmc tools : I've had a GMC router for nearly 2 years now, it's been used and abused for it's whole life, and shows no signs of slowing down yet. For that reason I've now got a small collection of GMC tools and they're all doing exceptionally well for their price. Only very occasionally do I find things too big for them to handle.I'm waiting for GMC to bring out a 1/2" router though. The 1/4" is just not enough sometimes.---------------------------------------- ----------------------------On Fri, 7 Sep 2001 02:39:37 GMT, "Bill VanNewkirk" wrote:I'd have to agree about the GMC router. I'd been looking for one tofit the budget for a while, and I ended up with a GMC router (the1250W 1/2" one) for Father's Day - SWMBO bought it on behalf of thegirls <G>.I've only used it on the weekend, but was pleasantly surprised by thelow noise and good fit & features - apart from the plunge lock-leverthat hadn't been tightened properly (how hard is it to tighten ascrew??).But be aware that the 2-year REPLACEMENT warranty only covers home use- which is fine for the occasional user like me. If you use itcommercially/industrially - like every day at the workshop - youprobably want to spend the extra (2 -3 times) $$$ for a big namemachine. gmc tools : GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2000) - Qualifying for the 31st annual MacTools Gatornationals got underway today at Gainesville Raceway. Theweather and track conditions have combined to produce some outstandingperformance numbers, and if the first two sessions of time trials are anaccurate indicator, then it's going to be another great weekend for GMCSonoma Racing. Rick Jones set a career-best elapsed time during thesecond qualifying round in the Country Motor Trailer Sales Sonoma with arun of 7.525 seconds at 178.54 mph. Jones is qualified in the No. 4position. David Spitzer jumped to the No. 7 qualifying spot in theSunnen/Dynagear Sonoma with a career-best elapsed time of 7.537 seconds at177.79 mph. John Lingenfelter's Summit Racing Sonoma is qualified in theNo. 10 position with an elapsed time of 7.561 seconds at 177.91 mph. TheNo. 1 qualifier is Randy Daniels in an S-10 with a track-record elapsedtime of 7.494 seconds and a national-record top speed of 179.71 mph. BobPanella is qualified second, Brad Jeter is third and Larry Seay is fifth.Television coverage of the Mac Tools Gatornationals can be seen on ESPN2on Sunday, March 19, beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern. Qualifying highlightscan be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday, March 18, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern. gmc tools : John Lingenfelter (Summit Racing GMC Sonoma) "We had a little too muchclutch in the Summit Racing Sonoma on the first run as well a rear endthat was bad. The rear was dragging and with all that clutch, we pulledthe engine down a little too much. The gameplan now is to find the rightmoves that will pick it up. We have two sessions tomorrow where we'llstay somewhat conservative just to see where we really are. Right nowit's cloudy but when the sun comes out here, the right lane gets loose." No. 10 qualifier - 7.561ET/177.91MPHDavid Spitzer (Sunnen/Dynagear GMC Sonoma) "Looking at the graph, our fistrun didn't appear to be that good. The Dynagear Sonoma went a little bitleft off the starting line and then it got loose out in the middle. Welost a bunch of time between 60 and 330 foot so I think we're lookingpretty good. I don't know if we can run a 7.49, but I do think we can runa 7.52 or a 7.53. We're running good speed as compared to the rest of thepack with the exception of the first two trucks so that tells me we'remaking big strides. We tested well in Bradenton right before we arrivedhere and I thought we had a good combination there. It's just a matter ofadapting to the racetrack and who knows, we may even be able to run betterthan a 7.52. I think we're at the point now that we can win a race. Youqualify in the top half, and get down to the final four trucks on Sundayand anything can happen. Obviously some guys may have the upper hand, butthe fields are getting so close and so tight that if you can make it tothe semi's, it's anybody's race. There're also a lot more enginecombinations that are becoming more competitive. We have the Steve Schmidtengines, some guys are using Reher-Morrison power and it's not just theGrump stuff that's stepping up. It's getting pretty wild out there. Forracefans who really enjoy competition between truly multiple combinations, this is a great class. It also makes it more fun when you're makingprogress and you can come to the track and actually see the gains. We'reat the point now where we can make changes to the truck, and when we findpower, it runs faster. Everything's finally making some sense and goingin the right direction."
