gmc truck : I waited 10 weeks for 1995 GMC Jimmy before the order was cancelledby the dealer. I waited 14 weeks for a 1996 model. I never didget a good explanation, even after repeated inquiries to GM. (Ilike the Jimmy, but I don't think I'll go through all that again.)The opinions expressed are my own and not necessarily those of my employer.Oh woe is me... I ordered my K2500 on March 21 and received my preference date May 1. GM still has not scheduled production. I have been calling GM directly to get status updates. You need to call 800.222.1020, wait for a human being, and reference your dealer order number. The order number will be 6 digits, with the first 3 being numeric, and the second three being either alpha or numeric. All this has done is give me that bad news a couple of days sooner than the dealer calls me with it. I am fully expecting 16 to 20 weeks before delivery. Terry Parsons wrote:oh by the way we deleted all the upscale trim and two tone paint so they would build it....... and it you do not like it they are no=t accepting anymore orders for 96 models so take it or leave it"...... gawd the 4-runner is looking better every day.... next week i= will continue to talk to the dealer but strongly suspect that general motors has another agenda... maybe selling all their shares t=o foreign interests. regards tom
gmc truck : I hope I don't have a problem. I just put in an order for a 1996 Olds. Bravada. I told the dealer that I didn't want it delivered till the middle of August. Oh well we'll see what happenes.I would guess that they were just about to start your order whenstrike happen. All GM products are most likly delayed due to thestrike a month ago at.When i order my 94 GMC Zr2; it showed up early ...Good Luck!PJDGentlemen:I ordered a Chevy K1500 in mid February. I was told recently that thebuild date would be the week of May 20 (This week!). The GM strikedelayed the quoted delivery time by 4 to 6 weeks. My truck was orderedwith the M50 5-speed manual transmission, which I understand, is veryrare (I don't know if this is good or bad). GM normally gives priorityto Suburbans and Tahoe/Yukon because they make about 10K profit pervehicle. Hard to make 10K on something that sells for 20K-25K.Steve82 Z2877 C10 (K1500 in mid June!)Steve Winters:Did you order a standard cab or extended cab and what engine? I ordered an extended cab K1500 with the 350 and automatic transmission. If the only basic difference in what you ordered is the M50 transmission I should have mine by now. At this point it still isn't even in GM's computer build queue. I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever get it. gmc truck : I have a 1963 GMC Heavy 1/2 ton truck. I'm at the beginning of aresto/custom project on the truck. It only has 110K miles on it and is inexcellent conditionI want to go to power disk brakes. I have seen a kit from Master PowerBrakes that looks like it will work. Does anyone know about the quality of kits from this company??Or any other suggestions? While I'm in there I figured I might as well change the control arms also. I have seen a kit from Chisolm (sp?) Suspension.Again, Does anyone know about the quality / ease of installation of thesekits??Or any other suggestions. From: ()Subject: Re: !Help Brake & Suspension Swap for '63 GMC Truck Newsgroups: , Date: 1997/04/03 On Wed, 2 Apr 1997 20:33:21 GMT, "Bill" wrote:Bill, I'm not sure, but I believe your GMC has the same frontend asthe 63-87 chevy. It might also have the earlier torsion bar frontend. If it's the later frontend (coil spring) then you have a bunch ofdifferent options. The cheapest and easiest may be to do what I didand find a donor truck. My '68 now has the entire front suspension, disk brakes and PS box out of a '85. I gave $300 for the parts and itwas a 70K mileage truck. I can email you a copy of the article Iwrote on the conversion if you like. In your case, you may need toget a conversion mount for the later model steering box, but these areavailable as well. gmc truck : You can also mix and match items such as front aframes, spindles, etc., but you've got to make sure everything is compatible. In otherwords, do you have the right ball joints for the spindles? Will yourtierod ends work with the spindles? Does your steering box match upwith the other assemblies? That's why it was easier to simply swapthe whole frontend and I got much better steering and brakes.I've had good luck with Master Power, although they aren't cheap. I'mrunning one of their power boosters, master cylinders and combination(metering and proportion) valves on the '68.You should also decide in advance what other modifications you'regoing to make. Are you going to lower the truck? And if so, howmuch? You'll also need to do something about the rearend so you canmatch up the wheel bolt pattern with the front.Don't use 71/72 front end parts as they are a 2 year only aplication, parts are becoming hard to come by. 73/91 font ends are nearly identical' find a low mileage one and us it. Cheers Bob gmc truck : I have a 63 Chevy 1/2 ton that I converted to power disk brakes. I boughtparts off of an 83 chevy truck (I think parts from up to 85 will work). For the brakes you need the master cylinder, power booster, andproportioning valve. For the suspension you need everything from thefront end except the cross member, and you need the steering linkage. While your there get the power steering unit and pump; you can use a kitfrom REZ engineering to bolt it in.Everything will bolt in except the idler arm on the passenger side, you'llhave to drill two holes to mount it at the correct angle. You should makesome kind of template from the donor truck that will let you position thearm in the same place on yours. I didnt and the drilling would have beeneasier(less worry) if I had.-> I have a 1963 GMC Heavy 1/2 ton truck. I'm at the beginning of a-> resto/custom project on the truck.
