jeep doors : I just bought a 76 CJ7 today and it has a hard top and hard doors. The guylost the keys to the doors. I know that in my VW that if I pull off thehandle, there is a code that allows the dealership to make me a brand newkey. Take the Handle offone door, and take it to a locksmith they should be able to take apart thecylinder and cut a key to match the wafers inside.OR, go to your local RV store and buy a couple new handles with keys. They're cheap, and match the CJ's almost identically. I got a pair atCanadian Tire here in Canada (duh!)

You basically just need the VIN... my friend just lost her Honda key (RIGHT before she traded it in for a new Cherokee!!!!) and simply drove (well, I drove) to the Honda dealership with her VIN. Granted, she called ahead with her lockout story, but they gave it to her no-questions-asked...BTW, they had the coolest tool for making the key: it was similar to a handheld hole punch crossed with a labelmaker. Their guy looked up the VIN in a book, dialed in a seven or eight digit code (the number of crests/valleys on the key) onto the tool, and then just squeezed the tool those seven or eight times. It automatically advanced, used a v-shaped punch to create the dips in the key, and totally impressed a helpless tool freak like me.
jeep doors : I am looking to buy some steel half doors for my 1995 Jeep wrangler.Unfortunatley some asshole stole them. And unfortunatly, I won anauction on ebay for a set but the guy wouldn't finish the transactionthrough a third party service like . Even after I agreedto pay for ALL the extra fees involved. He wanted me to send him 600bucks first, then he was going to send the doors. So we didn't do thesale. Anyway two questions:1) Am I crazy to expect somebody to go through a third party service atno expense to them?2) Does anyone know of any good places to get jeep doors? I have triedall the local junkyards and no luck.You are absolutely right in chosing not to follow up with the guy.The fact that he wouldn't do it should serve as a big flashing red light.I would post a comment on eBay about it. I just paid $600 for a pair of used YJ full hard doors, andthat included a used factory hardtop in the package!Some might be willing to spend a little more if they were already the rightcolor (if you care about them matching, that is), since you could spend abundle getting them repainted if they weren't the right color.As to original question of using a third party to verify this transaction,if the seller doesn't go for it, you were right to walk away. I called gemini-sales....twice....and they stillhaven't gotten back to me yet. I was thinking also about going throughquadratec but getting used doors is about half the cost, if you don't have topaint them. I also found a place in Arizona that has some good links too.
jeep doors : As for the interior lights staying on when the jeep full doors are taken off I doubt there is an easy fix. The soft tops come with the half doors, so even in the ragtops the interior light switch is off. What about pulling out the bulbs? That may be a temporary fix.As for half doors, I want some since I've bought a new soft top for my jeep. I've seen aftermarket fiberglass ones from Acme in CA and the venerable J.C.
