jeep hard tops : So, yes there are a few TJ's out with the hardtop, but no, you can not order a TJ at this point with one. Hopefully soon, though; that's the only thing holding up my order.I'm in the same position, with an order waiting on Jeep's release of theimproved hard top. One thing my dealer wasn't able to tell me, though,was about the capability (I've read about in several trade reviews) to mount the new hard top over an installed soft top. Do you know if thiswill still be the case? I'm interested in the new soft top for summerdriving, and the hard top for winter use. What's the best way to getboth?i don't think any 97 hardtops are aviliable. i'm going to buy(hopefully) a 97 Sport or SE and every dealer i've talked to sez thatathey're "on restriction." whatever that means.Could your zone rep be fibbing to you? New England is loaded with TJhardtops. I went on a 3-day trip from my home in NH to Maine andpassed at least 7 hardtop TJ's. At least half the TJ's on local dealerlots have hardtops. I've been hearing this tale about hardtops notbeing released due to weeks for a long time. The first one I drove wasin early March in Concord, NH. A later drive on the second day of adriving rain revealed no leaks.

I really think why you see the hard tops is that some manager somewhere probably tried to say it was no big deal and they would fix it later to find that no easy fix was in sight, people were getting rather testy and they then stopped hard top shipments. Also, my Jeep which was supposed to be here TODAY, has been delayed a week or two do to a shortage in soft tops. (BTW, I saw the ship date on the computer at the dealer). Apparently according to the dealer, not shipping the hard tops has caused an unexpected increase in demand for soft tops and are being held up by the manufacturer(they can't produce quick enough).

Q: How soon is soon, I would like a new Jeep 4.0 Sport or Sahara hard top, but I need to get it by the end of the summer(late August). Should I just give up. Also could I buy a soft top now and get an OEM hard top later this year when I would need it for winter. Peter, Spoke with my district rep yesterday (5/24). He is at a worldwide Jeepmeeting in Detroit. He told me that yes, some hardtops were delivered todealers early on. They have problems and Jeep instructed the dealers notto deliver them (they are "recalled"). Of course the dealers deliveredthem anyway as demand is so high. There is a fix in the works, both forthe existing hardtops and for new ones when they resume production.Interestingly, we received e-mail the other day (actuallyd-mail...internal from Chrysler) with current restrictions and it saidthat Hardtop orders were filled for the 1st June allocation! The districtrep told me that those orders are for corporate only...they are testingthe tops. We were wondering because Chrysler orders are entered viacomputer and satellite hookup...and Hardtops are currently not evenoffered as an option on our computer! (We get software updates continuallyreflecting new restrictions, color availability etc.) We are still beingtold that the problem will be relieved soon. What "soon" means I do notknow. I will post to the group the minute I get any new information. Alsokeep in mind that products and equipment are allocated regionally...thismeans that some areas of the country get stuff while others do not!
jeep hard tops : I am finally getting my Jeep - ordered Oct 30 and finally arrivingJan 25. *sigh* From conversations that I have had with the Jeepreps, the Hard Tops are indeed off of restriction, but they areonly off of restriction for "sold" orders. The person that I spokewith said they were still backlogged on those and to alleviatethe situation, they were not shipping Hard Tops for stock orders.Who to believe :} My guess is that the Jeep personnel are morereliable (assuming they are dealing with customers that have alreadyordered) than the dealers (assuming they need to make a sale andkeep the same story to save face).The short story: Hard Tops are not on restriction, but finding them on a lot might be tough unless they are from orders that werecanceled. I know I canceled one order for a Hard Top and the dealer never canceled with Jeep....since they calledme to let me know my Jeep was in Build status <g>. =three headless children scream faceless and voiceless and without sight, "i don't know, show me, i don't care"
jeep hard tops : I just order my Sahara this week. The dealer told me I order it at abad time because there is a strike and the shipment can be delayed up to6 months. Anyone know if this is true??I order my Jeep with hard top and was going to order the full soft topthru the part department. But the dealer told me it is very difficultto switch between the soft and the hard top. If I want to put the softtop on, I need to drill holes. Is that true? Is it possible to roll upthe soft top and put the hard top over it? Should I just consider abikini top instead??Furthermore, I live in San Francisco, the cheapest soft top around hereis about $865 plus tax, but I read from this group that they got one for$768, where can I get one at that price??You could get a Bestop Supertop that would work with the hard dooors for somewhere around $350 or so from a 4wd Hardware catalog. I just orderedone for my YJ with full doors from them, it was $340. Let me remind youthat Bestop is the OEM supplier, so you can expect the same quality.Sean 90 yj
