jeep liberty accessories : That's the irony of your post. Chrysler didn't NEED to re-do it todeath. AMC was so close to building a great vehicle in the YJ, whichwould have been a superior offroading platform with littlemodification needed (just like a TJ). While they came so close, itwasn't a result of any engineering they put into it. By and large, where the '87 YJ is different than the CJ, it is worse. The onlynotable improvement has little to do with the actual design of thevehicle, and is only the result of an improved manufacturing process.I'm talking abou the galvanized tub which makes the YJ tub such apopular retrofit for CJ owners.Sure I'd like a different dash design in my TJ. It cuts down a bit onlegroom and makes mounting accessories (like my rifle rack) moredifficult. I'd even be willing to bet that the Chrysler engineers whodesigned it weren't totally happy with it, but it was a price they hadto pay to meet the latest federal safety standards, which AMC wouldalso have faced had they survived. Sure they could have provided morelegroom, but at the cost of lengthening the wheelbase, or decreasingspace elsewhere, neither of which would have been an ideal solution.I am convinced that the TJ is the best short wheelbase jeep that canpossibly be built in today's marketplace and regulatory environment, and we are lucky to be able to buy it.
jeep liberty accessories : Don missed the cross-post on your original message. We've had a number ofposts recently that are basically troll-bait; someone comes in and asks"Which is better, A Jeep Wrangler or a Geo Tracker?" and then leaves. Gladto see you are actively monitoring the thread you started. The requirements you set up say either a Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. If you won't be purchasing until November, that excludes the Cherokee if youare looking for a new vehicle. This year is the last for the Cherokee, itis being replaced by a 2002 Jeep Liberty; a vehicle that many purists arguehas no right being badged with the 'Jeep' name. There are plenty of newfeatures on the Liberty that make it more road-friendly but past experiencewith similarly designed vehicles has many of us wondering if the Libertywill be able to handle any off-roading more challenging than a groomed firetrail. By November, you will probably have a good answer to that questionif you hang around this NG enough. If you are shopping used, the Cherokee has been around since 1984, so thereare plenty of examples out there; best of all is that the bugs have beenworked out over the years so the late-model Cherokees are pretty sound. There are plenty of aftermarket parts and accessories available from a widerange of retailers; something that Toyota and Land Rover don't have. Checkout some of the retailers referred to in this NG and see what I mean.Quadratec () and Four Wheel Drive Hardware ()have parts for many makes and models, but the Jeep section is huge. Do theyeven have a Land Rover section? jeep liberty accessories : Grab some of the four wheeling magazines and see for yourself. How many ofthe featured vehicles are Jeeps/Toys/Landies? Check out the advertisers andsee who makes parts for each of the above as well. The 4.0L I-6 engine has been around even longer, and can be counted on thelast 200,000 miles with general maintenance. With religious maintenance, reports of 300,000 before rebuild have been heard of. That's not somethingthe other manufacturers can boast. Once you have been bitten by the Jeepbug, parts are readily available to make your Jeep "better" I understand4Runners and Land Rovers have parts available too, but get ready to shellout some major $$ for the "privilege" of owning some of those vehicles.Maintenance is a similar expense, especially when you need parts. Toyotahas a good reputation for reliability, but the cost of replacement parts isincredible! Don't have a ballpark on Land Rover parts, but gauging by thecost of the base vehicle I'm going to say you can pretty much be assuredaccessories and parts are just more $$$... jeep liberty accessories : Jeep website and Liberty brochure say yes. Alas, dealer says absolutely not.Does anyone know for sure one way or the other? I was hoping to order aLiberty with 3.7L and 5-speed today. I'm *very* disappointed!Yes. I physicaly saw one with a 5 speed at the New York auto show in april.Tell the dealer you want to order one.Dealer's full of sh*t. The available 5-sped is the same one from the TJ, thenoisy NVG3500. * * *Matt Macchiarolo2000 TJ Sport "Voiding the warranty...one mod at a time"Wolverine 4-Wheelers: Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association: On a different subject ... I see you have a 2000 TJ Sport with a noisy5-speed. I also have one with a noisy tranny. Do you know if this is adestructive problem? Or is that just the way they are? Some people I'vetalked to say yes and some no. I'd appreciate any info you have on thesubject.I haven't experienced any major mechanical problems. The NV3500 had some issueswith popping out of gear, but so far that ha not happened to me.On the other hand, D-C gave me the runaround when I asked why the manual saysto only use D-C transmission oil in the 3500 (not "or equivalent", it saysnothing else is recommended besides that particular part #). Tried to find outthe specs of the oil from D-C and they would not give them to me. One day I'llcall New Venture Gear.* * *Matt Macchiarolo2000 TJ Sport "Voiding the warranty...one mod at a time"Wolverine 4-Wheelers: Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association: jeep liberty accessories : My understanding is the manual is only available on the 4 cylinder Liberty. It would be the best choice. A 4 cylinder auto would be slower than a snailon the highway with a vehicle as heavy as the Liberty. V6 is only availablewith the auto. The brochure shows that the 5-speed manual will be available on both the4 and 6 cylinder versions of the Sport model. The manual transmissionand final ratios are different for each engine. No automatic isavailable with the four cylinder. The only power train available on the ritzy Limited model is the 6cylinder with automatic. Both vehicles have the choice of part-time or full-time transfer cases. The brochure also has a sneaky little asterisk that says "lateavailability" on the 5-speed transmission, which I suppose means "Wedon't have it ready yet, so let's see how many 6-cylinder automatics wesell before we have to figure out how to hang the 4-cylinder engine andmanual transmission on this vehicle."The 40-page brochure is rather nice, and you should pick one up even ifyou don't particularly like the vehicle. In 20 years it might be avaluable collectable! :)Not quite. I ordered my V6 with a manual tranny, but they are delayingproduction of that until Septemberish. They keep promising it will beready by early October.
