jeep suspension : not true. The libby was flipped by a reporter from car and driver. Headmitted he was driving too fast. The stupidity was on the part of thedriver thinking he was in a sports car. I have tried to find a singleinstance where the KJ was flipped but can't find one other than the onementioned."attnews" <john .n. wrote in message...So you think DC lowered the Libby just for "the hell of it"? Or justbecause this ONE guy rolled it? I'm pretty sure DC knows there's a problemwith the Libby."The redesign plan "sounds to me like an acknowledgment that there is apotential problem," said Kevin A. Wilson, executive editor of AutoWeek.""Chrysler to Alter Jeep Suspension After Reviewers Question SafetyBy: Sholnn Freeman, Staff Reporter Of The Wall Street Journal""Jeep also said it began building its Liberty SUV at a lower height thismonth, partly in response to driving tests by two auto enthusiast magazines, one of which said it flipped over a Liberty during a driving test.""In April Jeep announces that it will lower the Liberty a little less thanan inch (22mm for the front suspension and 19mm for the rear)."

jeep suspension : "The Liberty currently has a 2 star rating for rollover by the NHSTA and thelowered suspension could result in a higher rating. The NHSTA test is astatic test and the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV 4 have received 3 stars.""AutoWeek has conducted this test since 1992 on "hundreds of vehicles andseveral dozen SUVs," executive editor Kevin Wilson said, and the Liberty isthe first to roll over.""Though Chrysler claimed the suspension change was planned well before themagazine's test"onsumerguide.com%2Fauto%2Fnew%2Freviews% 2Fsumm%2Findex.cfm%2Fid%2F23255.htmWouldnt surprise me - there was a bit of a stink aboutFords and tyres at the time.well when you have only around 6" of ground clearence, what do you expectover? it's aprox 3" shorter and 2" narrower. Seems about even to me but youronly bitchin about KJs. Here in Texas, we have many cloverleaf intersectionsand i am able to take them at the same speed i do in my chevy s-10 with verylittle body lean. It was lowered because of a marketing decision. If peoplethink they are easy to turn over (their not!), they won't buy them.you got that right. You quote that "the dummy's head...." etc ..well, someof the dummies were in the Krysler design department. They couldn't evencopy the successful AMC designs...they had to come up with a new one....haha trippy flippy...."Zorin Inc." wrote in message...

jeep suspension : Does anyone have any suggestions on a good suspension lift for a YJ? Ithas to be around the 2" mark due to inspection laws in the state i livein. I have a 2.5 on my current jeep and i can get away with that, although i wouldnt bet on much over 3". Thanks.--Jerry BransfordPP-ASEL KC6TAYThe Zen Hotdog... make me one with everything!Geezer Jeep: ok, let me rephrase. A good lift, for a reasonable (below $600?) price. Ilooked at OME for my old Jeep, it was a little too expensive.Good lift for a YJ under $600? Well ya got me there, since the onlyones I'm aware of that may be near that price are going to be prettydarned stiff riding. Hey, here's an idea... go check out eBay and keepan eye out for Jeep suspension lifts. They're in there quite a bit andyou might find a real bargain. Just search for "Jeep suspension" andthat should show you what's currently available.--Jerry BransfordPP-ASEL KC6TAYThe Zen Hotdog... make me one with everything!Geezer Jeep: I have a SkyJacker 2.5 on the old jeep, it "seems" ok, ive used it for less than ayear, and its not showing any real wear that i can see. Took off the sway barlinks, and the track bars and it flexed pretty damn good. I didnt much like howpoorly skyjacker put the lift together, all i got was a set of springs, bushings, and u-bolts ended up having to buy a lot of extra's to really get it working well. But i suppose that is normal? I had never replaced springs before and i reallydidnt know what i was looking at when i bought the kit. Ohh well, live and learn.

jeep suspension : I had a local truck spring installer make me a set with a 2.5 lift formy 86 CJ7. Mine are the heavy 6 leaf ones. (hardtop version)He used the stock 4 leaf and added one extra long leaf and an overloadleaf to make the pack.Cost me $265.00 Canadian ($150.00?? US) installed an axle and has heldup for close to 3 years without a sag, and she gets bounced good.Mike86 CJ7 Laredo, 33x9.5 BFG Muds, 'glass nose to tail88 Cherokee 235 AT'sBuild and Trips Photos:Personally,Seeing how you already have a lift, why don't you save for the best you canget? Most anything else is going to be similar to your Skyjacker so I amnot sure if you will actually gain anything in the flex or ride departments. As a no/low cost alternative, you can fiddle with your present lift byopening up the spring clamps, changing the bushings on your shackles, getting greasable shackles or a set of revolvers, lubing inbetween theleaves with carbon paint and so forth..i had thought of that, but the deal is, i have a '90 YJ, its old, and thetranney is starting to act up. So, i am beginning to look at newer YJ's as analternate vehicle until i get the transmition rebuilt and so i can build one ofthem into a good ORV and the other will be for light off-road, and highwaytravel. at present, it seems that the newer vehicle will be the highway vehicleand i will mod the hell out of the old YJ. I was concidering taking theSkyjacker off of the '90 and putting it on whatver i buy, and then putting thefactory shocks back on the old jeep until i find something better, or get a newlift for the newer jeep and keep the Skyjacker springs on the old one. so ihave been thinking about all of this.. Just needed some help on the "Which liftto buy if i buy a new one" question.

jeep suspension : I have a question about replacing suspension, when doing a frame-uprestoration.Here's the situation: you have just blasted and POR-15'ed a bare frame, andare putting on all new suspension components. You know that you want xinches of height, to fit your 35x14.5's.Would you need to buy a lift kit (Skyjacker, etc) to get the height youneed? Or could you just buy suspension parts in the appropriatesizes/lengths to get that height. And, would you still need to use a body lift? The reason I'm asking allthese questions is that it seems you're starting at square one when you'reall the way down to the frame, and it seems you could just build the vehicleto ride at whatever height you want. Without buying kits or parts that aremade to take an "intact" Jeep and lift it.OK, now the philosophical question. I know that the Jeep is a very personalthing. I suppose people are somehow defined by their Jeep. I'd like tohear what people have to say about buying a Jeep that's already been "done",albeit to someone else's tastes and specifications, vs. buying an emptycanvas, if you will, and building "their" Jeep that defines them, as anindividual. I am torn between these two paths. On the one hand, I wouldundoubtedly end up with a vehicle that has better workmanship andreliability if I buy one finished. On the other hand, it probably won't beexactly what I want.
