yukon gmc : I priced a 99 Sierra SLT as well as a 99 Silverado LT. The sticker prices werewithin $150 of each other. When I checked out lease options, I found that the onlyvariable between the two was that the residual value was consistently calculatedsubstantially higher for the Chevy as opposed to the GMC. The lease payments wereabout $18/month cheaper for the Chevy, on the basis of the residual value. Ileased the Silverado, even though I liked the Sierra front end styling quite a bitbetter. As to customer appreciation packages, I've bought 3 Tahoes since 1995, and eachtime they sent me all the same stuff mentioned below. Cooler, roadside kit(including Maglite), umbrella (says "Chevy Trucks") and a very nice Thermos steeltravel much (says "Chevy Trucks"). I liked the mug a lot, wanted to buy anotherone. It was $30 from Chevy, but I found the identical mug at Target (minus theChevy logo) for $17.50. Haven't received anything yet for the Silverado (3 weeksold). When I bought my '96 Chevy K1500 I got nothing from Chevy. The salesman sent the wife a nice hanging ivy plant, though. Good truck,I'd buy another if I needed one.
yukon gmc : --__________________________________Plea se remove "X" from email address to reply.I can't comment on the bumper because it seems a whole lot better thanthe plastic/rubber ones I'm used to seeing on my cars. However, Iwanted to make comment about parking. I noticed that even when youput the truck in park and then put on the parking brake, the truckstill rocks forward or backward a pretty decent distance. (I'm usedto always using the parking brake from my standard 5-speed Accord.)To solve this problem, when I park, while still in gear, I push downthe parking brake and let off the regular brake. Then I shift intopark. No more rocking.I don't understand how the parking brake actually works on this truck. In my Accord, there isn't any rolling around when the brake is on, butthere is on my truck. I can understand rolling while just putting itin park because there has to be some play going back up through theentire drive train....Yes, both my wife and I drive 5-speeds currently and we are used to carsstaying put when the parking brake is applied. :-) yukon gmc : I got my new issue of GMC Directions today.... seems they are challenging theExcursion.... and have renamed the Suburban (?) If anyone mentioned the name "Yukon" just five years ago, the listener's headwould likely be filled with images of a broad, untamed wilderness. But today, the Yukon name often conjures up pictures of solid, versatilefull-size sport-utility vehicles. GMC customers will see a new application ofthe Yukon name with the introduction of the all new 2000 Yukon (200-inchlength). GMC has also improved the Suburban for 2000 introducing the all newYukon XL (220-inch length). Both Yukon vehicles maintain the substance to handle the kind of unforgivingterritory they're named for. So they're more than ready for civilized rests, such as pulling a boat, carrying a load of home improvement supplies, orshuttling a soccer team around town."We have a Yukon family of vehicles now," says Courtney Moody of the Yukonbrand team. "The vehicles will share a large number of components and the sameworld-class tide and handling, time tested structure, strength andpracticality. The strategy is similar to the Sierra pick-up. Whether you buy aregular, extended cab or crew cab model, it's still a Sierra."Yukon customers will be buying a Yukon or Yukon XL, and Denali will be theuplevel trim package."GMC's intentions are to meet all its customers' sport-utility needs, accordingto their lifestyles. If customers want an established SUV with plenty of roomfor up to nine people, seating positions with commanding views, and excellenttraction and towing capacity, Yukon offers the ideal choice. If customers demand additional cargo space and trailering ability, Yukon XLpro-vides the right fit.Besides its name, something else will change for Yukon XL in the 2000 modelyear. General Motors no longer has the only king-size sport-utility on theroad.Ford Excursion, a new SUV based on the Super Duty pickup platform, will claimsuperior size. But the list of Yukon XL advantages remains long, Moody says.'We believe our vehicles are appropriately sized, and we're still best-in-classin a number of important areas," Moody says. "For that extra cargo space in theExcursion, you'll probably have to trade off some handling and maneuveringability. We will have the edge in other customer concerns, such as payload, garage fit and turning radius."Yukon XL also is expected to have a higher maximum towing capacity thanExcursion - 10,500 pounds compared to 10,000pounds, according to current information. Customers may sense a smoother, morecarlike character in the Yukon XL, due to its light-duty truck chassis; theFord is built on a heavy-duty platform.Yukon Brand Manager Dennis O'Donnell says the vehicles are prepared for amultitude of challenges."Yukon customers may never need the extra horsepower, bigger brakes, brighterheadlamps, added passenger capacity, substantial cargo room and suspension thatwill smooth out even unusually rough roads," O'Donnell says. "But if they do,it's there." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ yukon gmc : writes to quote some bafflegab from GM about the "Yukon", and asks:Being somewhat partial to GM myself, I am still put off by the shameless huckstering of their propaganda/puffery. My advice: study the actual specifications, drive the two rigs, and THEN pick one. One issue of importance to people towing trailers: check the wheelbase. I have not seen the specs on the stretched Burb, but GM long vans have a 155" wheelbase, a clear advantage over Ford & Dodge.I stand corrected - I was going by GM's extended vans, where their longer (155") wheelbase is a stability advantage when towing. Yes, the long w-b is a liability trying to maneuver in tight places. To me, the big plus for the Excursion (besides the *cool* factor) is you canget it with the power stroke diesel.... GM will have to come up with an engineto compete if it wants to be competative.... to my way of thinking.I have heard that the 2000 Suburbans will all have HydroBoost power brake units, and that is a big improvement over 1999, where only the 3/4 tons have HB.Chuckle, chuckle. Next GM will be using copy like "agile, nimble, cat-like" to describe the 'Burb, erh, Yukon. yukon gmc : I currently have a '99 Sierra and, despite being the first year of thisnew GM model, have had no major problems (knock on wood). Then again,my '97 Expedition, again first year model, had 57,000 nearly flawlessmiles.I suspect that GMC is "reserving" the Suburban nameplate for theirExcursion-like vehicle (based on the upcoming GM "SuperDuty" platform) for 2001. So, in the future, perhaps the light-duty GMT-800 models would be "Yukons" and the heavy-duty truck platform would be a "Suburban"?However, Chevy is keeping the "Suburban" name for their flavor of the'00 Yukon XL, so maybe GMC will have to call their 2001/2002 vehicle "Yukon XXL" (extra-extra-large)! They both carry 8/9 people + cargo, have tow capacity, and have 4WD forlight offroad and snow. Beyond that they are very different vehicles, withdifferent advantages and liabilities. The light-duty GMC is more maneuverable(42ft turn radius vs. 49 ft) and relatively agile, whereas the Ford is morestout. They are both likely to be very popular. Ford could easily create aExpedition XL to compete more directly with the "Yukon XL" (notice that GM has countered the Ford Expedition with a '00 Yukon/Tahoe that has 8/9-passenger capacity). It is great to have a choice!
